Default Vortech Aftercooler Bulletin

I hope this provides something of a forced induction service and "scoop." Vortech told me twice yesterday (12-26-02) that the aftercooler that Vortech sells with their F-body kit (S or G trim) will only flow 1000 cfm versus the 1200 cfm made by the T-trim.

Therefore, one of the following has to be true: (1) Vortech's statement is wrong, or (2) Vortech's statement is correct, in which case, this aftercooler is a major performance restriction for all of those members who have upgraded, or may upgrade, to the T-trim and have kept their G-trim aftercooler, which apparently should be replaced with an air-to-air intercooler or similar unit.

I am sensitive to these issues because I am switching from the G-trim to the YS-trim and am searching for an intercooler.

I will be interested to hear what others discover on this topic.

Damn, I think I'll go with a Spearco Intercooler with the T-trim upgrade.

I think someone is trying a T-Trim with a single ATI air-to-air intercooler also. Dunno if ATI uses Spearco or not.

I am running spearco intercoolers in the turbo car and they are nice units. If you are gonna get a air-water setup they have a few nice units. I wouldn't think that the one on the vortech setup would be that good after seeing the size of what spearco calls a 1500 cfm unit <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> (which I have)

I don't know the Vortech part number, but they only sell one aftercooler specifically for the F-body. However, they sell a Mondo Cooler that handles around 3,000 cfm that fits on the passenger floorboard or maybe in front of the radiator. Unfortunately, they want over $2,500 for it. A guy could fab a good aftercooler for a lot less.

I also called Vortech and the core on the aftercooler is the same with all Vortech kits (except the Mondo). They say you may loose a pound or two with it. So I am not too concerned with the aftercooler.
