Default When do u know u need a larger SC?

Do my friend need a larger SC if he is running a 2.75 pulley and only getting 11psi on a 8.6C/R motor? He was running 9psi with a 2.95 pulley and when we got a 2.75 pulley we were expecting a 13-14psi not a 11psi!!! He has a V-2 vortech SC and the specs on this SC are:
It flows 1000CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 20 PSI *
Maximum impeller speed: 50,000 RPM

I was thinking he will be needing a larger SC to get more boost and power from it since the V-2 isnt enough for his engine IMO. What do u think guys?

The boost increase from your pulley swap sounds about right to me. If he can spin the supercharger more without detonation, I think he needs a bigger crank pulley.

Getting smaller than 3" on the supercharger pulley begins to introduce more slippage, which, of course, reduces potential boost level.

Good luck!

So its ok to see a 2psi gain with .20 less in the pulley size as happend with us(from 2.95 to 2.75 just 2 psi gain)? How large should he go with the crank pulley to increase another 2 psi?

So would a larger SC help to give the same level of boost with larger pulley? For example, the small V-2 gave 11psi with a 2.75pulley, would a larger SC gives 11psi with a 3.15 pulley to minimize slippage?

I spoke with RMCR (about getting an S or T trim) and he said that the belt slippage problem is really an ATI thing. He said the Vortechs don't have this problem due to the better tensioner design. A t-trim is 1250 CFM max 55000 rpm and bolts up the same.

On of them are using a 2.95 pulley and the other one is using a 2.75 pulley. We have found a way to make the belt very tight without slipping... Take the tensioner pulley out and drill a hole at 12 O'clock position(the hole is drilled at 1 O'clock position now) and then put it back on and tighten the bolt well at the 1 O'clock. It will be much tighter on the belt after that and wont slip.
