MasterPower GT45 results
I have some results on running a GT45 turbo. I did not dyno the car. So you can use the MPH and E.T. to guestimate. I tuned the car myself. I will start by telling you about my set-up.
Car weight 3500
Engine 383
compression 8.5 to 1
Heads A.F.R. 190
Cam 530 lift 230-232dur. 114 plus 1.6 rockers
Transmission 4L80E
Rear gear 3.70
tire height 26"
Fuel injection Controlled by FAST
A/F ratio 11.5-11.8
Timing 23 degrees
Fuel 114
injectors 72lb.
Air to water intercooler
I started with a used wastegate and thought it might be bad...Maybe diaphram. Changed to a new TIAL 38.
Wastegate spring was 17psi with a manual controller plumbed to cut all boost off the lower port on the wastegate. 17psi spring + 14psi from turbo.
Boost comes in at around 3200-3400 rpm's. I could only get 15psi out of the turbo. I have made 6 runs and boost stayed at 14psi with one spike to 15psi. I did everything except use a block-off plate to get full boost. I ask Jose to do the math and it looks like with my cubic inches 15 psi is all it will make.
My best time is below
1/8 mile 6.60
MPH 103
I made two 1/4 mile runs in Bowling Green when I went to the Drag Week with 93 octane and 19 degrees timing.... But I had power brakes then so 1/8 mile times were off because not being able to hold the car at the line to make boost quicker.
1/8 7.04
1/4 10.97
mph 125
Looks to me about 630 fwhp... maybe a few more and 520 or so at the wheel.
I am changing turbos now to a percision T76 and will post the differences hopefully this weekend. They are both rated at the same HP. I will run same boost to get an idea of times and then hope I get more max. boost from this turbo.
There was a car on Turbomustangs with a GT45 that would run high 8's or low 9's. Maybe something else is wrong???
I have a GT45 sitting here and was hoping for more than that out of it.
Good luck.
Tim
The upgrade for the GT45 is $599. Includes wheel, machining, re-sleeving and balancing.
