Default Are 6.0L 317 heads worth it?

Well I bought a set of 6.0L 317 heads for my turbo LS1 build and am not sure if I really want to use them. I am buying forged pistons anyway, and I don't really need them to lower my compression.

The 6.0L head advantages: Larger valves
The 6.0L head disadvantages: larger combustion chamber, hard to find a forged piston to get me around 8.75:1

What do you guys think? I know the larger valves go both ways... they will probably flow better at high RPMs, but will they take away from my low end torque or engine response when I'm not under boost?

Thanks -Dave

I also had a hard time finding a piston with them. Had to pay extra to custom make them to get a 9.0:1

If I didn't have them already, I would have went with 5.7 heads.

hmm yea, I'm in the same boat. Not sure if those larger valves will help me or hurt me.... I want to have a decent amount of low-end torque to pull my 4000lb sled around... with a 4L80E no less... and those valves might be a step in the wrong direction. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't do it, quality pistons > some extra push in the upper rpms

i don't think the valve size will hurt torque, oversize runners causes a loss of velocity.if you are going to order pistons custom ones shouldn't be that much more, especially if you factor in shipping charges if you trade your heads to some 5.7s.either way you'll be happy.good luck.
