why is it that SC cams tend to me better for their application on the mild side?

Depends on what type SC you are talking about and what you want out of it, and if it is going to be a daily driver, S/Strip, race only, etc.

The short reason is that cam duration doesn't need to be as long if you have something other than just the atmosphere pushing air into your motor. A lot of times, for higher power, you will need to add exhaust duration to give all those extra gasses time to escape.

so would it be kind of like overkill by adding a much bigger cam?

Umm, depends on what type SC you are talking about and what you want out of it, and if it is going to be a daily driver, S/Strip, race only, etc.

What do you have in mind? What blower, what boost, what are you going to do with the car, etc...

The smaller Cams bring out the midrange with the blower and give a nice power range. You can run a big Cam but they ussually give up the midrange.

We run big Cams in our race cars but the power range is 6000rpm to 8000rpm.Not the best for daily driving.
