Default Bob(EPP) or anyone else-10.7:1 c/r and boost question

I've got the PP 5.3 STG 2 heads, 110 lsa 228 232 560 566 cam, full exhaust and all fuel options available in metro detroit, I got a great deal on an 8 rib ati d1sc, and want to run a safe amount of boost without changing my heads or cam, - What pulley should i run to achieve this? if u sell them i'll buy asap. thanks bob

NONE

you will detonate and blow up, seriously your combo is wrong for forced induction. Either do it right or don't do it at all.

who is dan millen?

your compression is too high and you are running the wrong kind of cam. at most maybe you can run 4 lbs of boost. you will detonate. you won't be able to run hardly any timing... not worth it.

throw the kit on and find out for yourself if ya don't believe me.

If you stay at 5-7 psi and 14*-16* of timing you should be ok, that cam you have will bleed off a good amount of boost but I had used a 112 lsa and it worked ok.

Dan Millen = Livernois Motorsports very fast turbo Clash of the Titans racer, he knows his stuff.
Your compression is high for a blower but there are a bunch of boosted LS1's in that territory. Pleanty of Z06's run 5-7 psi and make over 500 at the tire. Don't sweat your cam. While its true that many FI cams have a lobe sep of 112-114 deg you're not talking really much overlap in terms of degrees. How much airflow do you people really think is going to go out the exhaust with 4 more degrees of overlap?!! Anyways some chamber scavenge is benificial to power production and the effect lessens with rpm. The wide lobe seperation rule is really more for roots blown setups anyways that make boost at low rpm.

The LS2 responds favorably to supercharging as well and has a static compression ratio of 11 to 1.

Wow.. That combo sounds like a disaster... you'll put money into it and realize you should've just gone to a smaller cam and gotten better heads... running race gas would be the only way to run 6+ pounds of boost I'd think... 4psi with your combo would work (maybe), but is it really worth it?

Panzys!!!!

I ran 12-16lbs of boost on my between 11.5-12:1 compression motor. Ran bad *** too!!

oh yeah.. It blew up though, only because it needed more fuel and I tried to tune it myself.. No tuning Experience at all owned me, well that and instant wheel spin to the rev limiter. The motor was built with Manley Rods, and some custom flat top pistons. Motor had aftermarket heads and cams.

Oh yeah.. This was in a 98 Cobra.. Little bit different... But seriously change the heads.. You wont regret it! You could get away with 8lbs on a good tune and just make sure you always keep good gas, etc.. in it.

The LS2 engines with their 11.1/1 compression ratio run very well with 7 psi of ATI ProCharger boost, provided you back the timing down to approx 18 degrees, and have the air/fuel ratio at wide open throttle at 11.2/1 to 11.5/1.
Centrifical superchargers do not need the low compression ratios found on turbo and positive displacement supercharger equipped engines. I would start out with a 4.00" pulley, figuring on your cams profile bleeding off some boost. I think I have several in stock at the shop. Bob

i'm gonna try it, i've seen 5 psi make over 500rwhp, just wanted to make sure it was possible, i'll try the 4.00, will i be able to install at my house then drive it on my n/a tune 2 miles to get it re-tuned at livernois?

oh btw, i'll run 93/turbo blue mix at all times, does that make anyone feel more confident with my set up?

thanks guys i appreciate all replys

Why is that, because you ran 11psi on your stock motor.

Its all about cylinder pressure, and flame speed -- and they're related. Higher compression boosted setups are becoming more common in the import world, because you can make the same/more power with less boost pressure. Its not as easy to tune, because small changes in boost pressure effect a MUCH larger change in cylinder pressure. Lot less room for error. Can it be done? Of course! Would I do it on my car? Maybe.
