Default A couple questions for the gen III experienced...

Ok, so I'm looking into building a nice motor for some serious boost. I have some good experience with the LS1 346, and I know that these are lightweight, serious motors. My question is, about how strong can they be made to hold boost? I realize that this all depends on the rotating assembly but I would assume the Gen III 6.0 iron block would be a much better choice. The only thing I would like to know is: can the aluminum block be built to handle boost similarly in excess of 1200 crank hp as efficiently or as well as the gen III 6.0?

To answer the question of what I am trying to do or what my goals are: I'm looking to build a nice single turbo setup to handle around 1100+ whp and 35 - 50 psi. My turbo selection is up in the air right now, it is between the GT47/88 from Garrett or the GT55/93 also from garrett.

Theoretically my assumptions are sound, being that Iron is better for boost, however I would like to experiment with the LS1 aluminum being that it is lighter and is more readily available. As noobish as these questions may sound, it seems as thought the further I research the more I am smitten to ask those with more experience. Thanks for reading.

w2w has some nice 1000-1250 hp shortblocks or long blocks that are ls2 based.
seems to be holding up well in Mike B's CE turbo transam, runs 8's

^I've actually delt with w2w before, bunch of great guys and give some good advice. My only problem is I'm not willing to mess with the LS2 seeing as it isn't as common as the LS1 yet and the aftermarket parts are a bit above the price of the LS1 parts. Not to mention the lack of RnD (in contrast to the LS1) in tuning and parts for it. The ls1 is tried and true so id like to stick with that, any advice?

He's talking about using an LS2 block, most LS1 parts bolt up to them and they're a larger 4" bore and supposedly stronger than the LS1 AL block.
