New best with a scare

Decided to go play one more time before putting the TH210 tranny in the CE. Just for some fun until the new motor is done.

60'- 1.37 spun and shook the tires a little
330'- 3.73
1/8 ET- 5.66
1/8 MPH- 128.29
1/4 ET- 8.70
1/4 MPH- 161.82

Race weight was around 3,725lbs. Boost peaked at 26.5psi.

Now for the scary part. (Short as possible) ;) Our local track Kilkare has a very short shutdown. Well on this pass the chute got tangled up and didn't help to slow the car at all. I stood on the brakes and ended up melting the brake pad and backing plate on the passenger side. The piston ended up coming out and lost my front brakes. The backs then locked up. By this time I knew I was going in the sand :eek2: so I started heading to the right so I could cut left and keep the turbo from sucking in sand. I cut left at the last moment and the ass end of the car came around and slid into the sand stopping the car.
Luckily we have a race/parts car in the garage with a good caliper and rotor. So we'll be good to go by the end of the weekend. :) Then it will be time to see what she'll do with 100lbs out of her.

When you can't stop, and you're still thinking about saving the turbo, that's when you know it's true love  Glad to hear there was no major damage, I would've :turd: my pants.

JZ 97 SS 1500 04-28-2006 06:25 PM

Mike get in touch with me next week or let me know when to call you. I would like to talk to you about the 91 and 88mm difference. I hope the 88/98 is still working for you ;)

BTW, if you suck some sand in, just send the turbo our way....lol

Caveman 04-28-2006 09:22 PM

Glad you were able to save it Mike. That would suck busting both cars in such a short time. Hope everything goes well with replacement car.
I have a ? about an Ohio car I might buy you should know the car. PMing you.

Dave

TH210 tranny?

67Firebird455 04-28-2006 10:26 PM

Man, that has got to be the WORST feeling! I've heated my brakes up plenty in my 3800lb TA with the turbo (brake boosting) or hitting it, braking, hitting it, braking and I get worried when I feel like I won't be able to stop. I can only imagine going 160+! Glad you're okay man..

Toonz 04-28-2006 11:22 PM

Damn Mike! Congrats on the new best and glad you were able to shut her down safe. You guys are having some luck with cars this year!

frcefed98 04-28-2006 11:48 PM

CrawlinWS6 04-28-2006 11:56 PM

why are you putting the Th210 in the CE, whats was wrong with the 4l80e, if you dont want it you can donate it to me, or just let me borrow it.

btw what converter are you using?

glad you didnt bust this one up to, guess steve is the only one to do that :P

DarkblueTA 04-29-2006 05:22 AM

The 88 wasn't enough so I went with a PTE91.5 Jose had it to refresh and sold it for me and found me the 91.5

Were putting the TH210 in it to be more competitve at Milan in the Drag Radial class. It's lighter. The gearing is better and the easy stage will help me get up on boost easier. This is only temporary. Will run it this way with this motor and for a short while with the new motor. Then the 80 will go back in to get ready for Drag Week.

We run Midwest Racing Converters.

Deffinately would have sucked to have two busted cars in the garage. :(
Everyone was saying how they would have been scared and freakin out. But it is different when your in the situation. All I could think of was how would be the best way to get it stopped with the least damage.

Glad you are safe.

Do your 150/160's make you go through plugs a lot?

LSs1Power 04-29-2006 06:19 PM

Wow.... LS2 with stock crank? Why? Block isn't stretching or any other problems?

You just may changed my mind about the 370 iron setup.

The plugs that are in the car now have probably 30-40 passes on them. I do pick up just a little with fresh plugs.

At the time I didn't want to spend the extra money on a crank. Plus Harlan ran a stock crank into the 8's so why couldn't I. ;) Plus I like to push things to the limit and make things work that shouldn't. :)

Who builds the motor has a lot to do with how well they take abuse. Oil pressure is still the same as the 1st pass and it has very little blowby. As soon as the new motor is done this one will be tore down and inspected. W2W or myself will post the outcome.

Reckless 04-30-2006 09:12 AM

I think you need to check your clock Stevo! It was 8am, not 6 am. And yes, W2W builds the best engines :D
