I totally agree with that.

One of the biggest things I got out of my 402 over my 346 was a ton of power under the curve.

My D1 is maxed out without being over spun out of warranty and I got 14# of boost when I put down the 756rwhp in my sig. The blower picked up 100rwhp and 100+ftlbs throughout the power band. It's not funny what I do to equal hp cars with smaller cubes.

I already trapped 140mph on this setup and I'm looking for more with traction.

You know, the less you spin the blower the less air the motor sees right? You will have to spin the blower just as hard with a larger motor compared to a smaller one to make the same hp. Torque down low will be more with the 402 but not but then again, how come all the fast cars have smaller motors?

I voted before I read If your set on a D1, I think the 346 can get it done. Of course more cubes is always better but then you need to upgrade the blower to get the most out of it. I don't think it makes sence to upgrade to a bigger motor to then have a maxed D1 when you could make the same power or more with a 346 with a maxed D1. If your looking for more power overall then bigger motor AND bigger blower is the way to go.

Consider me a blower dummy, but what would be wrong with a 383 and a F-series blower? I haven't read a lot about this setup.

IT seems like it would be the good middle ground between a 346 and a 402/408.

Are there any issues when trying to build a reliable boosted 383?

I'm thinking a boosted 383 as well. An F1 on a 383 or 347 would be retarded. Some of the F1/347's i've seen on this board complain of TOO MUCH hp. A cog'd F1/347 with a 228 cam would be sick in my book. Woo!

I thought I read somewhere that LS 383s have oil consumption issues and excessive thrust on the cylinder walls on naturally aspirated motors. Is this true and if so how does it come into play with a boosted motor?

Im looking for around 725rwhp. From everybody's opinion, it looks like a sub 400 cube motor and a d1 is the way to go.

Reliability is big for me. At what point would an ls1 or ls2 block need sleeves and piston squirters? A studded, forged aluminum block with billet caps would be sufficient for 725rwhp?

Since this has been necroposted I find it amusing to read some people's comments and then see what they are now running.

that is sufficient. just make you have a thick decked head, good tune, good intercooler and/or meth and head studs. As far as sleeves go im no expert but less than 900rwhp you should be fine, piston squirters, dont think any of the guys here making huge power are using them. Prob its an all-out-*****-to-the-wall application. And if you are still worried maybe look into an engine girdle too. hope I helped

thanks. that helped. I figured sleeves were for a more serious application since I see procharged builds everywhere with no mention of sleeves.

The impression I get on piston squirters is that they arent absolutely necessary as I dont see them mentioned in many procharged builds either.. but they seem to be good on a motor that will be ran on boost for an extended period of time. extended road racing.. which is what my motor will be for..

ZR1 has piston squirters and doesnt see crazy boost.. might be good insurance.

exactly! plus its good insurance if you issue a warranty for 100k powertrain such as the zr1's
