. They were violent and crazy back then. Now Formula 1 engines have been sissied up to only 800-900hp in qualifing

yeah they where out and out racers with the smallest power bands ever! lol be nice to see what someone could do with one today with more moder technolagy, materials, fuels and knowlage!
i know the BMW units was 'based' on the 2.3ltr M3 four pot engine! talk about detuned race engine. lol

Cool how it builds boost!

. The building boost is part of the heat process. Since the engines are such low compression, they have to sit at the line for a bit heating. If not the flame gets put out.

you need to heat the ENGINE so it will run cleaner, not the trubo. do any of the huys add stuff to the fuel?? gas maybe?? i have heard a little bit of gas can make a deisel go quicker! hehe
do you leave the Glow plug on while running???
thanks Chris.

And as for the timing question, he is around 35* to 42* degrees.
Brads truck is bad, but not as bad as Kent's.

Compression from the factory is anywhere from 17.5: to 16.3:1 depending on the year. On something like that it will be closer to 11:1 to 14:1
no gas, other stuff maybe, but not gas. On that motor there are no glow plugs. Those are mostly a thing of the past. I think only the ford comes with them, and I think they may have out grown them by now.
I have years of play time in the diesel world. Even got to see Kent's truck the first year he took it to Muncie.
Here is the truck that is widly concidered to be the most powerful diesel in a pickup truck in the world. Some say it is over 1,500hp at the wheels these days. In the vidoe it would have been closer to 1,350hp at the wheels.

Those engines are mostly tuned on an engine dyno, just like hi-po gasser engines. They are all mechanical, no ecm computer or chips. The highest computer controlled engine is in the 900rwhp range.
Fords are a ways behind. The highest Powerstroke is mid 700's. While the chevy Duramax is a great engine, it is around 850. This puts the Cummins on the top. And no ford does NOT own Cummins.

You got to remember that this truck is NEVER driven on the road, it's like a top fuel car, only in the diesel world.
