they were running around 90psi and making 1500bhp on the dyno
Yeah that was on almost straight toluene though! And a Cosworth motor designed specifically for high boost. Big bux$$$. They were some sick setups though. Wow. What an era.

Yeah they were ran on a mix of toulene and heptane mix. The 1500hp was only during qualifing trim. I have some pictures of KeKe Rosberg's Williams car pulling the wheels exiting a corner at the GP of Monaco . They were violent and crazy back then. Now Formula 1 engines have been sissied up to only 800-900hp in qualifing

Can you explain what's going on there, Jose? And I imagine that's a manual tranny? What gear is that in?

Cool how it builds boost!

Our personal truck is a manual 6spd. We launch it in 4wd high/3rd gear. Our boosting method is mat it to the floor and throw boat loads of fuel into it .

The building boost is part of the heat process. Since the engines are such low compression, they have to sit at the line for a bit heating. If not the flame gets put out.

That truck pull video is sick as hell... We've got to the tractor/truck pulls here the past couple years for the world ag expo (since we developed their website, and provide their internet for the show, etc) we get VIP tickets there. Those things are RIDICULOUS. They are my absolute favorite, how they're smoking like hell then it goes away and it's a sharp flame coming out the top, the sound of the turbo just going absolutely insane. I can't imagine that much torque.

i think anti lag would be evne worse on these diesel, esp on these low comp jobies (by the way what comp do they run????).

you need to heat the ENGINE so it will run cleaner, not the trubo. do any of the huys add stuff to the fuel?? gas maybe?? i have heard a little bit of gas can make a deisel go quicker! hehe

do you leave the Glow plug on while running???

thanks Chris.

Where do you get that figure for Brads truck? "Maddog" Richard is running 130psi, and still is driveable on the street(he drove that thing to Dunbars dyno from Utah I think. Brads truck is higher then that I hope. If not then he has some increadable breathing mods done on that thing.

And as for the timing question, he is around 35* to 42* degrees.

Brads truck is bad, but not as bad as Kent's.

You got to remember that this truck is NEVER driven on the road, it's like a top fuel car, only in the diesel world.

Compression from the factory is anywhere from 17.5: to 16.3:1 depending on the year. On something like that it will be closer to 11:1 to 14:1

no gas, other stuff maybe, but not gas. On that motor there are no glow plugs. Those are mostly a thing of the past. I think only the ford comes with them, and I think they may have out grown them by now.

I have years of play time in the diesel world. Even got to see Kent's truck the first year he took it to Muncie.

Here is the truck that is widly concidered to be the most powerful diesel in a pickup truck in the world. Some say it is over 1,500hp at the wheels these days. In the vidoe it would have been closer to 1,350hp at the wheels.

http://www.diesel-central.com/Video/...entcrowder.wmv

Those engines are mostly tuned on an engine dyno, just like hi-po gasser engines. They are all mechanical, no ecm computer or chips. The highest computer controlled engine is in the 900rwhp range.

Fords are a ways behind. The highest Powerstroke is mid 700's. While the chevy Duramax is a great engine, it is around 850. This puts the Cummins on the top. And no ford does NOT own Cummins.

Last I remember Brads truck was a single, not a compound, thats the reason for lower boost. Yes Kent Crowders truck is awesome indeed.

Chris like mentioned above the compression is knocked down a good bit. So we spray Ether to get them started. Until they are warm they will smoke like a freight train. The cummins is a spectacular engine indeed. We are working on a billet head for the engines, should let us make alot more power with less boost. Should be interesting indeed.
