Default Precision Turbos

What is difference between the GTQ and the GTS Precision turbos? Is there more lag with one over the other?

Hi there,

The GTS wheel is a more efficent, higher flowing wheel for larger engines. Can spool slower in some cases, but can be worth upto 25-200HP depending on the turbo.

I picked out a Precision 72 GTQ in the the begining, for my PTK kit, to cut down on the lag and it will produce the power I'm looking for. Precision is telling PTK that the GTQ in a 72 is no longer available and they are giving me a GTS instead. Does anyone see any problems with going w/ that 72 GTS?

Hi Pete, welcome to the board. We talked a while back on the phone.

We are putting a GT47.88 on my 346ci in early August.

What size is the engine & what mods?Should work well for you. Will help out the backpressure numbers at high boost.

He's got a new 9 to 9.5:1 forged 347 shortblock (from TSP), with a TSP "turbo cam" (I don't know the specs), and some old school GTP ported heads (that let him run 11.2's @ 124 NA, full weight, with a mild 226/226 cam - so I'd venture say they're pretty good not optimized for turbo, but they do have some good flow).

He is shooting for 550-600 rwhp. If he's man enough to handle it.

The 72-GTS will handle that no problem its rated at a good 950 HP at the
crank.

just out of curiousity and to maybe avoid an upgrade later.. doesn't anyone think the PT76GTS would be a wise choice in this situation? I think the 72mm unit has a MUCH narrower efficiency range and would actually be happier at higher boost levels as opposed to a 76mm at mild to moderate boost levels and same size body so fitment shouldn't be an issue?
