Default What options for Birds front ends with FMIC...

Just curious what all options are out there. I mean for the front bumper when installing the FMIC. The filler plate has to be removed and area behind that cut out correct? So what are you guys doing to clean that up? What options do we have here? I've seen some people leave the hole which i dont like. I'd like to make it look as stock as possible and very unnoticeable that a FMIC is there. I've seen some guys keep the outter edge of the filler plate and install mesh in it for a grill type of deal.... any other options? Pics? Thanks!

if you had alot of time and were careful I think it would be cool to just carve out the bird on the front cover and then you could even put red painted mesh behind it and keep your red bird up front look. air flow would not be optimal but I bet good enough.

You can actually cut the front license plate cover out and leave the rivets and slots to remove/ re-install the front licence plate cover if you want to hide the FMIC. When you race it, remove the cover and around town cover it up if your that concered about the appearence. Personally, I put the cover on only when i show the car. I dont believe you will be able to keep the fog lights tho. Hope this helps.

well i've seen most people keep the foglights and just ditch the filler plate. The cutting our of the bird is a real good idea, but then i'd be concerned about airflow like you mentioned as i need the FMIC to perform its function. I'm not that worried about the appearance, i just dont want everyone to be able to so easily see that i have a FMIC. Try to be a little more stealth.

Once you are seen in a Trans Am the stealth factor goes out the door.

here are some pictures of a grill style.

Any other ideas that dont leave me a big hole where the filler plate was?

lol so true, so true!

I like the idea you just posted, as well as the idea of just cutting out the bird. Either are unique, and pretty slick touches IMO.

I dont see why you couldnt do either if you remove the fogs and put mesh there to kinda hide the FMIC. I mean, look at us Camaro guys. There's quite a few roaming around w/ SLP or billet grilles in front with FMICs. And if the CTS-Vs (now granted, they have a larger grille area) can pull off an FMIC behind their mesh, I dont see why you couldnt necessarially pull it off in a similar method.

yea, but people usually see lights there and never see a grill. Oh well, i think the mesh for grill would be unique, now how needed is it for the FMIC's use to remove the foglights as well?

Understand about the Bird, did not want to loose or cut it either.
Here is one that I did some like it some dont but it works rather well. Now if you have a lower suspension, thats another story.

I like FMIC Trans am's that cut the center section and just leave it open (like Kp's car for example)
I however am going to try something onorthadox and use this custom Front bumper cover but instead of leaving it open I Plan on running a thick black mesh grill with the factory Foglights built in to the center of the two outlets. That way it still looks somewhat like a traditional trans am with the Fog lights plus you won't be able to tell there is a intercooler behind it unless your right up on it. If I decide to not do the center fog lights then I plan on runner a small style (98-02 style camaro) Foglight on the side below Day time running lights.

Take this and paint a bird on there...IMO, it'll just look like a blocked and painted bird from 10 + feet, and only will you know it's a mesh grill with an FMIC behind it when you get up close. Best of both worlds.

Theres no point in hiding a FMIC, it isn't like people won't know you're boosted. Turbos/blowers make noise, and unless someone is a retard, they are gonna know it. You want as much airflow as possible to the ic, why spend the money on an intercooler and then choke it? If you want stealth, spray it. Personally, I like how an ic looks when its all exposed, looks serious. Plus you could always paint it black make it less obvious, but like I said, you will have a hard time hiding your setup.

That **** is so ******* ugly. Please don't ruin your Trans Am by putting that on. It doesnt follow the lines or style of the car well, and the holes are just dumb.

The one posted with foglights and mesh is about as clean as it gets (remember you have to modify brackets to keep your lights most of the time).

Another option is to find a way to mount it horizontally across the flow path the air takes to get to the radiator. that would provide lots of flow, but may diminish flow to your rad. Its exactly what Hi Flo did/does with their kit. They use an OBX-style FMIC as well.

.....

why not just paint the bird on your FM? that way you get good loks with a custom touch and still great airflow

i know mine isn't exactly the same front bumper since i have an LT1, but since i don't have the license plate bracket to cut out, i had to get real creative. what my plans are is to build a sheetmetal duct that hangs down 1" - 1 1/2" below the bumper that's painted the same color to force are across the IC. then i'll box in the sides to make sure all the air that goes across it has to go through it. hopefully i'll have some time to get it done soon so i can post some pics up. i own a heating and air conditioning company, so the metalwork should be a breeze. i'll keep ya posted.
