How much timing were you running? What head gaskets?

I'd do a 12 bolt or a 9", +1 to what Tony said. I've seen folks break rearends on launch and on shifts.

I've broken 4 stock rearends already. One was launching on slicks at the track. One was launching on the street on Nittos. Two were shifting into 4th gear at the track. All of them were around 460-500 rwhp. The only 12-bolt I've broken is a stock 31-spline axle in my first '69. After I upgraded axles, it didn't break again.

I dunno the rear end doesn't make any noise or anything.....seems to be perfect.
You guys must be beating the **** out of it on shifts or something. I tend to take shifts easy on purpose and it takes it. I've punished the car alot on the street while tuning.

its the stock GM gasket, right out of the package, didn't do anything special to them or the sealing surfaces of the block or head.

ahhhh, 10-bolt denial. I used to suffer from that too. These rearends break without warning, and they don't make any noise until they grenade. I'd rather have a rearend than a cage. You are more likely to bust a rearend and lose control than you are to roll a car.

Even if you only make 800rwhp you can easily break the stock rearend.

Besides, you can't granny shift, what if you only run like 136mph.

If the man wants to gamble his and his car's safety on a unreliable 10-bolt... Hey.... Let'em! Just post the vids.

Seriously, get a freakin' 12-bolt with 33's or 34's, asap.

I think what these guys are trying to emphasize is a 10 bolt failure could be a little more dangerous than just some funny video, more like resulting him putting the car in to the wall at the track, losing control on the freeway, killing himself and other people. they are time bombs with that much power you are playing with fire.

Do yourself a favor and put a rear end in it or you might not have a car to put a rear end in, haha. and the whole train of thought of yea ill get a cage so if my rear end breaks and i crash I will be safe, just think about that for a few mins....... excellent power now put to the ground safely and reliably, good luck.
