Turbo Choice Help
Turbo Choice Help I just received my PTK turbo kit and the turbo(72 GTS) is on back order thru Precision for another 10 days or so. That is not a big deal to me at this time. However, Dalton did offer me a Turbonetics (76 GTQ) turbo as an option. Like I said the wait is not a big deal, but I just wanted to double check my options. This is going on a forged 346, 9.5:1 cr, 3.73 rearend, 80% street car. I'm not interested in having the baddest car on the block, just a well rounded street/strip car w/o a lot of turbo lag.
100% Street? Like, "PUMP GAS" kind of street? If so, go for the 76GTQ. It'll do the job maxing out your set-up on that 346 easily with pretty good lag characteristics. That's what I did...
I ordered it and received it in two days... I got the turbo before I even got the receipt e-mailed to me. I would have left them a decent Sponsor Review, but alas, they are no longer sponsors... Though, interestingly, that has not stopped a user here from posting a bad review in the sponsor feedback section.
What I'm saying is that if you decide the turbo meets your needs, you'll get it quickly unlike the process for buying turbos from Precision. I was looking for a LONG time for a brand new 76GTS from Precision... Fuggit.
Anyone that runs this turbo should chime in and let us know... I KNOW there is one user here that does, but I forgot his name.

bboyferal, since you a very similar setup. When do you hit full boost? I'm just nervous about the lag of a 76. Does anyone what the difference in lag would be between the 2?
WHOA... I don't have that on yet. I've got my MPT-70 running right now... From what I've researched, it will exhibit less lag than the PT-76GTS but maybe some more than my T-70... It's price and availability could not be turned down, and Turbonetics turbos are GOOD, PROVEN turbos. Moreover, I will not be running race gas but will be maxing out an 8.5:1 CR 346 (6.0L heads/custom turbo cam/meth) with a stock '02 PCM on pump gas... 15 psi maybe? I doubt I will reach it's limits, maybe stopping around ~750 rwhp... Though some here have gone higher on 346's with pump gas!

Hi,
I favor the PT72GTS,because it will spool better than a 76GTQ,and they are rated at the same power.The GTS wheel is a much more efficent than the GTQ wheel,and will drive the compressor wheel harder and will make more power at lower boost,with less backpressure.I think its worth the wait.

The T-netics unit is not the same as the PTE. GTQ for the PTE turbos is not GTQ for the T-netics. Pete is right though that PTE's GTQ will not make as much power as the GTS, but spool up the GTQ is quicker though. The GTS wheel is several grams more then a GTQ heavier by far.

The new T-netics unit uses a 10 blade inconel turbine, which is an option over the standard Q-trim. With the 76 compressor it should be good for 1000+hp. Also see if its comparable to the 76 MPS. As those units have made within 5hp of a 76GTS on a twin turbo viper and made more torque.

Just out of curiousity here guys, I'm slappin a 2004 GTO LS1 into my 78 Camaro, and I'd like to keep everything INSIDE the engine bay for around 500Hp or so, street drivable........how much does a turbo system like this that's driven normally in day to day traffic perform in terms of MPG efficiency compared to stock ??? Is it a HUGE difference.....any info would be cool. I'm not looking for speculation, I want people's answers who KNOW these things for fact by experience preferably not hearsay.
I'm a rookie in the forced induction area, so any help or pointers would be cool.

I just heard Turbo's were less taxing on your fuel if you drive it normally as compared to a supercharger unless you mash the pedal of course.
