Default Is a solid roller setup beneficial to turbos?

I never hear much talk about solid roller turbo setups and I was curious if the two don't go hand in hand. I currently have a solid roller and I'm toying with the idea of changing to a big single turbo over the winter.

Just like NA, if you rev it high enough to need 200+ lb seat pressure, then you'll benefit from a solid roller. The problem is that supplying enough air to 346 cid at 8000 rpm requires a very large turbo which most people don't want to fit. Most F-body guys (myself included) limit themselves to a T76 turbo or smaller, which won't go past 6500 rpm on 350 cid. At below 6500, a solid cam is not needed.

I believe a solid roller has advantages over everything but the most aggressive modern hydraulic rollers, and you make gains by lifting and lowering the valve faster, giving you more area under the curve. I generally don't see people speccing the super aggressive Comp hyraulic rollers. I am also not an LSx guru, so you guys may not see exactly the same results.

This chart shows the valve curtain potential of the roller:

I know I switched from a hydraulic roller to a small solid roller (230/236 @ .050, 112LSA, net lift .575/.584, adv. duration 268/274) on my blown 383 and it really came alive. Revs faster, doesn't die on the top end so quick, very clean idle, crisp response.

Yes, the latest Comp hydraulic rollers have ramps similar to aggressive solid cams.

I notice in the chart, it lists: Hydraulic, Solid, and Roller. Do they mean Hydraulic and Solid flat tappet?

That's my assumption. I wish it said hyd roller vs. solid roller. I don't remember where I snagged the chart from.

Still, if you look at the lifter duration at .200" lift, which Comp usually references, the Xtreme Street Rollers usually spank everything except their most aggressive hyd rollers. CC Tech line said their most aggressive hyd rollers are more race-type parts that see good maintenance and replacement intervals. Some of the most aggressive need a rev kit like a Hydra-rev. They also confirmed that a solid roller like mine, 230/236, would idle like approximately a 222/228 hyd roller and have midrange and top end like a 238/244 hyd roller with less dropoff on top.

In my book, a great tradeoff for valve adjustments every 7K miles. That's a great time to inspect the upper end anyways...
