Default Cubes vs SC/TT for RR Q.

Confused? OK heres my question, my C5Z has been built for open track days by MTI ATLANTA and the little 383 does good at 465/485rwtq BUT as everyone else here, I want more. My car is on the track for normally 20-30 minutes per session never anymore (so far) and i only go probably 2 or 3 weeekends out of the year and mix in 3 or 4 Auto Xs and a couple of drag races and thats about my year....my car is a street car with AC and full interior.

Back to the Q.~ would i be better served going 422/427/408 all motor or SC or TT. I know the guy on the west coast in the burgandy C5 has SC D1 (i think) and he seems to do well (canyon runner dude) im shooting to surpass 600rwhp thats my goal anyways....ECSC says no problem with there SC set up.

Thanks in advance!

yes......but, for RR or auto-x the sc or all motor set-up is FAR more controllable because of the linear and predictable power curves. bump the compression down on your current engine and install a KB.

the turbo will shock the rear tires and put you into a wall, car, or field with geese. the s/c wont.

I have zero problem with mine, but it is really built up to handle it.
Ran it for two hours today under throttle.
Up to 185, closed course, of course.
Never got over 208 degrees.
427 STS TT.
Built by Rick at Synergy.

For road course i would really stay N/A just because of heat issues... Maybe a 11 degree heads 427-436cid, but if money is a factor then get a S/C, but make sure you have enough radiator/fans and intercooler in the setup. I would also run straight race gas on the pump gas tune when racing on a road course to keep things as cool as possible. My D-1SC setup overheats (230+)after 2 laps while my N/A engine used to go 20min of beating (and see 230). I drove turbo cars on road courses and i really didnt like the feel of it. It felt sluggish compared to a N/A or S/C setup. If u want response and reliability then stick with N/A, but if u want response and speed then go with a S/C.

Won't a turbo car pull you out of the corners harder than a S/C or N/A?

A roots blower or a head/cam is better from my experience than say a Pro-charger or Vortec for lapping. Some centrifugal chargers come with occassionally inadeqaute pusher fans, or small pullers and you DO battle heat on the road course. I would head/cam all bore it. Its nice to roll to a full mat at the apex, and a turbo or charger mays that harder do to greater potential of tires slipping.

The burgundy car you mention is Joels Supercharged C5. He has a forged motor, heads/cam, alky, runs torco and pump 91, built tranny, redone suspension, road race tires, etc. His most recent numbers were high 600s rwhp and over 600rwtq. Ive seen it in action, its a pretty fearsome machine, and he has spent a lot of time and effort and money tweaking the setup to get to the point where he is now. And its an old style carrol vortech supercharged kit (using a T trim, I think). It has a custom air/water aftercooler with a heat exchanger. Not an off the shelf vortech, not an FMIC setup either.

Sorting out FI to do well on a roadcourse can be quite a challenge.
