Christ, I cant for a second understand this. 800rwhp and youre going to drive it at the 590 setting? Hell, I'd set it to high boost and throw away the boost controller. Slap some NT01s on there and youre good to go!

LOL, have you driven big power before? I made 680rwhp before and would go sideways with 28w's... I make 800rwhp and that won't hook on the street.

Big HP is like having a bazooka and not being able to set it off. Eventually you'll find a place, set it off and if you're lucky nothing unintended gets in the way. The worst is when it goes off on accident... it's like gettin sideways at 130mph when you least expect it.

It's cool at first to have bigger but in the long run, 600 to 700 is plenty for the street.

Yes, I have. Hell, Ive daily driven my then-600rwhp Z06 at one point. 800rwhp will hook just fine on the street, depending on how you drive it. If youre talking banging gears and clutch dumps on the street on Pilot Sports, good luck, but if youre easy with the throttle and run 100 treadwear or less-tires, I dont see any issues at that power level. My own car has no traction issues in ANY gear once the tires are warm, hell yes I want another 200hp, thats why its actually at lapd right now.

I guess what Im getting at is that Kevins self control is totally frigging amazing.

I'll be happy once I crack the 800 mark.

I agree with 600 to 700 on the street. My car got out from under me too many times. P*K is still making some nice turbo kits!

I just dumped the Michelin Pilot Sport 335s which I could never pull 3rd gear into 4th and it was even sketchy at 100mph in 4th. John (CCW) talked me into trying the Toyo Proxes RA1s when I mentioned I was going to throw on a set of the new Nitto (335 series) DRs. He mentioned to me that a bunch of guys were running the Proxes RA1s on the street, getting traction, and about 5-6K miles out of them. They come with 8/32 tread depth vs. 6/32 are 100 treadwear, traction A, temperature A.

Anyway these (Toyos) tires completely hook and I am more interested in putting power to the ground vs having to lift off the throttle with more power and less traction. I still got to short shift 1st and 2nd..but its really nice pulling through 3rd and being firmly planted in 4th. I think the new Z06 is a good example of putting power to the ground. 450-500rwhp is a good power level for the street.

Not really a big priority with me... hitting the drag strip that is. I have been there and done that as well as Roadcourse events. They are both fun but are also both equally demanding on time and money....especially the demands from roadcoursing. I would much rather have my car setup to have fun in all 3 areas (street, strip, and track) vs dedicated to one area...thats another reason I put on adjustable shocks. However that being said I am looking forward to going back to the strip in a C5, I plan on going when some of the guys go but it will be on my 335 18s.

I understand you did well with your new Automatic conversion and TT setup...congrats!...especially on 17" DRs thats impressive.

I am waiting to see what Nick can pull off...especially if he decides to go with a 2 step and transbrake. His car and setup is how I would want to setup my C5 if I was going to go drag racing. Like Nick, we both do our own wrenching so it is matter of our own time when it comes to making repairs, upgrades, or mods.

Its funny to look at your Viper and see that it layed down basically the same numbers as my car..but reversed and with 10#s less boost. The Vipers seem to get there really easy with all that displacment.

Do you ever run the Viper at the track? I was thinking about getting an older one..they are coming down in price. If I bought an older one I could keep my Z...can't decide on the older generation or the latest one.
