Just got back from the track..... (yay!)
So I drove my car to the track tonight on some new 275 40 17 MT et street radials.
17's up front too, both fuel tanks full, SLP 20TL exhaust, approx 3,850lb raceweight. Also the car has a spohn torque arm, 1LE LCA's, and the same swaybars, bilstein shocks and slp springs that were put on the car when it was built in 96'
First run I set tire pressure to 22psi, do a short burnout, stage, and slip the clutch out at about 4,000rpm, which resulted in-
60ft 1.733
1/8 6.770
1/8mph 112.17
1/4 10.266
1/4mph 145.41
Nice! I think. Best run on the Goodyear eagles was 10.8@142 so this was certainly a step in the right direction. The track felt sticky as hell so I decided to try launching it off the 2 step on the next run which just ended up in a massive burnout. (run aborted)
Well, slipping the clutch out seemed to work on the first pass, so I dropped the tire pressure to 20psi, pulled around to make another pass and was determined to just drive the f@ck out of it.
Backed into the water box and did a short burnout. Pulled up and lit the first staging lights. Start bringing the rpm's up as I inch forward to trip the second set of beams I've got the rpms hovering around 5,500 as the lights are coming down. Last yellow I quickly slip out the clutch and floor the accelerator and it just feels awesome. Banged the next 3 gears without lifting the gas pedal off the floor and........
60ft 1.547
1/8 6.408
1/8mph 113.62
1/4 9.873
1/4mph 146.38
Yes!! I'm happy as hell right now. Never did I expect to drive the car to the track on 17 inch drag radials and come home with a 9 second timeslip. These tires are absolutely amazing, not to mention the poor street twin that has taken all my abuse.
