IMO, yes, you are gaining block strength over weight reduction. Some will say that they are fine with sleeves.... IMO, i feel alot better about tacking a slight weight plunge for strong block for MY particular application.

it all depends really on what you want to do with the engine. For, FI= iron block for big boost.

those cam specs seem quite large, let see some dyno graphs when done....

If your serious about reving to 7k rpm and at first ussing the D1,you need to up the compression.I would atleast try to get it to 9.5-1 because you need a good reving Cam which will drop the DCR alot. The ideal would be 10-1 compression with say 240-248 on 114 Cam.

Its too late now.... I have the heads and short block that will give me around 8.4:1-8.5:1 range. Hopefully i can sell the D-1SC and go for an F1R with lots of boost. Eventually that is the plan down the road which is why i went with this low of a C/R to start with.

Then run a smaller Cam that raises the DCR alot. The problem woth that is the peak power comes down the rpm curve.

Say you ran a F1 with your current setup and a 236/244 Cam on a 114

Then switched to a 244/248 on 114.You would probly lose 30-40hp down low and gain 20-30hp up top.

Now,you raise the static compression to 10-1,you will gain probly 100hp/80-100tq everywhere.

This is just thrown out there from my past experiences. Looks like you are a racer by reading your build and goal to rev to 7k rpm.
