Default Effects of head gasket thickness on quench

Before anyone assumes that I know what I'm talking about....let me dispel that idea. I have no idea what quench is, but I just saw another thread about it relating to thicker head gaskets and how that is a bad thing. I am putting together a 408 and just bought a set of Diamond -28cc pistons, 74cc ported 317 heads, and I was planning on using a .03" head gasket to put me around 8.9 or 9.0:1 compression, which I have been told will be a good number for boost (about 15 psi or so). What effect does head gasket thickness have on quench? What is quench (in English please ). Is a thinner gasket always better for quench, and a thicker always worse?
