Default Powerdyne

I have the chance to buy a Powerdyne supercharger for my '99 Z28 for about $700. Should I do it?
I know this isn't the best kit out there but the price is just to good.
I have just the boltons and I won't be doing any crazy motorwork as I don't race the car so I won't be upping the boost later.

If I don't buy this kit I won't be doing any other supercharger because I can't justify the huge costs involved. (I know it will still cost a lot with all the parts I'll need to buy with this one but it'll still be tons less.)

Thank You

That is a good price. I went 11.40@124mph with that kit back in 2000 with a few mods with stock six speed and stock motor.

You need to address the fan setup and also the poor intake. Ditch the FMU and go Ls1edit with upgraded pump and injectors.

Cheers,
Chris

700 is dang cheap! i'd jump on it if i were you!
i've got the 4 lb. powerdyne on mine and i've been very impressed by how the car runs. if you're not planning on doing some HEAVY modding, i think that this $700 blower set-up would be perfect for you. just check it out and pull it apart to make sure that the belt and bearings are in good shape...

good luck

Thank you for the input. Yeah I am in shock at the price as well which is why I want to jump on it. At the most I would run like 5psi because like I said I don't race and that would be enough to get me a nice little jump in power without losing any driveability like I would if I were to go with a cam.
As for the tuning I have a friend that does all the tuning on my car so I'm not worried about that.

I have to be honest here. I have yet to hear anything positive out of the Powerdyne experience.

PS: Nobody wants a lot of boost. That is until the first 03/04 Cobra smokes them. Then views change.

Have you actually run or Powerdyne or are you just going off what other's have said?

I don't street race, it's illegal, unsafe, and immature so I'm not worried about being beat by someone. Plus like I said I don't race the car at all so wanting more power isn't an issue. Like I said I just want some extra power but I don't need a 500hp motor by any means just to drive it on the street.
Also like I said if I don't get this kit I won't be doing any FI because I can't justify the expense so I'm thinking I'd rather have this over nothing.

i've personally had experience with a Powerdyne. i like it. if it's in good shape, you can't go wrong for $700! i don't think that you'll be disappointed. it doesn't sound like you're shootin for 450-500 hp so it'll be just the jump in HP that you're lookin for.

good luck

Damn, that is a super price. There are a a couple shops that will take the blower unit to the next level with vents, ceramic bearings, and careful clearance set up if you want more out of it.

For $700 just think of it as a small nitrous kit thats always on and you dont have to refill.

for 7 bills, u should get it , it will make some power,
i had one on old lt1 car, with self made water/alky injection set with pressure switch to light up at 2 psi, ran hard, with t56 and stock rear went low 12's
stock engine and headers, had to be puttin down 400 whp or close to it
u will gain some power with similiar akly injection kit set up with presure switch, if u will run hard

I made 435RWHP and 433RWTQ bone stock motor with headers running out of pump. (no cutout)

After the 360ci build I made 455ish RWHP running WAY lean above 5500rpm.

I'd let my kit go for 4 grand.

I'm not selling out per say I'm stepping up

Hell I'd even throw a ATI kit if I got it for cheap. (uh oh Vortech guys are gonna hate me now lol)

I need to make around 650-700 rear wheel now without the bottle.

526 is just not enough anymore lol.

You should be all over it! Put a 6spsi pulley on it, pump and injectors with a tune you would have all of 1300 invested in a good 460rwhp setup that has power all the time! I have a Powerdyne setup on my car @ 6psi, it makes 310rwhp. I have a 3.8L though. I love my setup. Not too shabby for a V6. If I had an LS1 car the very first thing I would do is intake, exhaust, powerdyne w/ fuel. Because they can be found for very cheap, rebuild can be done by yourself, easy install, make great power and you dont have to refill it. Its great on the car, you can beat the **** out of them, it doesnt hurt your motor when you drive on it in traffic. They may not be 600+rwhp supportive but they will get you around 500hp @ the crank! If you want to customize it, go get an ebay intercooler, a smaller pulley (you would lose psi through it) and fab everything up yourself.
