Damn doc.. your car looks a lot better than mine though.. There was nothing but a few pieces of metal left for the doors. No hood.. It was just plan trashed.. I should have video and pics up tonight after my boy uploads them..

yea... breaks my heart.. Pretty much my dream car, and it had some sentimental value.. I became good friends with Paul and the Autoworx crew.. I really wanted to make them proud with some good numbers.. But just came out to be a dissapointment.. I know a lot of hard work and money went into it.. Not much came out of it.. Sorry guys.

Sucks to hear, hopefully you get some decent $$ from the insurance and can build a new one.

This exact thing happened to me. But as it starting arching, it shorted out, and the car shut off. I at least had a warning, and a reason to pull over and inspect.

Sorry about the car man....good luck.

Damn, sorry to hear. At least you're OK, you can always build another car.

I know that doesn't make you feel much better about it though.

Back in my heyday a friend was racing at the track in his stang and had a pretty good fire.... So after this my buddy at the shop grabs me a mini extinguisher and not 2 weeks later i am putting out a fire under my hood at the topend of the track and saved the car from a complete disaster. The fire trucks took care of the rest as i only got maybe 80% of the fire, but saved it from spreading into the car or underneath. All you guys should get a little extinguisher in the back seat.

I came very close un July this year.

I destroyed a blower belt, and it grabbed some wiring in the process, wrapping it around the blower pulley causing it to short. It was the main wire going from the starter motor to the alternator..

The car died as soon as I hit 3rd gear, so I freewheeled the rest. As I reached the exit point, I saw smoke coming from under the hood, and thought "oh s**t"

I quickly jumped out and disconnected the battery ( quick release terminals )

A fair bit of wiring melted, and I was very very close to a fire. Although at the exit point there were fire crews also waiting.

Since that I have carried a small extinguisher in the car, and re-wired all accessory power feeds via a 50A fuse, although the starter motor still gets a direct feed.
I also re-routed all wiring, so it doesnt pass by the blower belts path, should it fail again.
