Removing chrome for ceramic coating?
Im assuming they cant coat over the chrome, so what is my best bet for removing the chrome?
You could coat over the chrome, but the adhesion of the coating would be limited to the adhesion of the chrome, which in a turbo application would be limited. Coating the inside of the pipe would help it some, but not much IMO.The chrome can be blasted off with aluminum oxide at a high PSI (100+) but it is still going to take a while, and probably thin the steel beneath it. Do you have to use those headers? If there's an alternative, or if you can get those headers plain steel, your best bet is to sell those and buy another set.
You could wrap them, but the wrap will hold in the heat and the chrome will all flake off, leaving you with a mess underneath.
How much does a typical coating job on turbo hot parts cost?
