Default 99LS1 a good platform to build turbo?

???? Im thinkin about getting rid of my LT1 turboset up to get an LS1 and go with that...is a 1999 a good setup? If i went with a 98 what would be the difference and am I much better off with a 99+? Im looking to spend no more than 10k for the car and then throw on a turbo kit on the stock engine for now, then go through the motor next year. Any suggestions?

If your gunna rebuild the motor anyway you can save a bit by going with a 98 block as they are less desireable for a few reasons. Those being, weaker rod bolts, poorer bay to bay ventilation, and thiner cylinder liners which limit hone size potential. Katech rod bolts are 100 bucks and if the motor is going to be rebuilt in the near future then a '98 block would do just fine. If you can find a 99+ go for it, if you find a cheaper 98 I wouldn't worry about it being any "weaker" than a later LS1.

well I want a better platform. I dont mind if i find a higher mileage car..cuz I will eventual replace everything on the car like I did with my LT1. I just want to make sure what I get is a good base. Kinda like the 93 then 94-97 LT1s..the 93s were cheaper but alot crappier with alot of stuff that wasnt interchangble..i dont want that this time. I want something that I can build to put out alot of power and not have to worrry about it.

mines making decent power with only 5.5-6psi on the STS kit. imagine what it would make with 1.5-2 psi more

[QUOTE=Snyper]???? Im thinkin about getting rid of my LT1 turbo setup.

if i remember correct.. the lt1 is probably better to stay with,..... more head bolts and a stronger block! plus you can run a regular distributer in the back of the manifold and get rid of the opti-spark for reliability.
