I've had both turbo and sc. If both had forged stuff and a great fuel system:

If I wanted a nice reliable true street car that I would drive and park and drive and park daily, I would buy a D1sc, put the boost around 12psi, tune it and forget about it.

Might possible do the same with an APS twin turbo system if it's as nice as the Vett system/old Incon system...but it's not available.

If I wanted something to keep tinkering with to go faster and faster I'd buy a turbo set-up from OFI, or others......which I'm hacking on today.

Then again, ya look at Kevin running 149.xx with a sc and go Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

OFI FTW, could make some serious power if done right.

although the procharger would be faster to get and easier to maintain

turbo FTW!

yes, if you wanna wait awhile, then turbo is for you. even my STS took a couple of months to come together, but in the end it was worth it!! it just depends how you wanna boost!

The ATI ProCharger is driven by a belt off the crankshaft.
The turbo systems are driven by exhaust velocity and exhaust heat.
There is less parasitic losses with a well designed turbo system, but there are very few good turbo systems on the market.
The OEM companies spend millions of dollars in R&D, where aftermarket companies largely rely on their customers for a lot of the R&D. Meaning, their kits get out on the market, and if problems are found, parts are redesigned. This method of R&D can work just fine if past customers kits are updated, and the companies stay in business. This last part, staying in business, has been a huge problem with most turbo companies. ATI ProCharger has been in business for over eleven years, and their kits have been redesigned and improved upon along the way. No turbo companies producing kits for our cars have been producing these kits for any length of time.
In my opinion there is a greater chance of turbo kits having some of their more expensive parts failing, due to the extreme heat cycles these parts endure. Turbo mounts fail, exhaust castings develop cracks, etc. Bob

Does anyone even have a OFI car running yet? Everyone keeps praising them, but Ive never seen any results. TTi (new sponsor) has done turbos on the LS1 since 98 and is proven.

I had a turbo, if I would do it all over again, Id get a D1SC.

My buddy is going to be running the OFI kit and I will be running an F1A, so I am anxious to see how each of our kits turn out. Most of the points bought up in this thread is why I decided to go the Procharger route.

One thing not pointed out is backpressure problems with a turbo kit. A turbo isnt the end all be all FI setup either because its "free" power.

http://www.turbotechnologyinc.com ??

Edit: Given the choices, I voted Procharger for proven performance. No offense to OFI, but I can't afford to pioneer a new kit.

I was thinking of the OFI, just to get rid of my super low SLP long tube headers. If I get the pro-charger, I will still probably want to spend money and replace those headers. But, I like the idea of sending away my PCM to get tuned since I plan on keeping everything stock, except for what I must change for the FI.

I would definitely go OFI with S-series. Good for daily driving....no annoying whine at idle, and easily adjustable from 7psi to 20+psi with a EBC.

S76 or S80. Both will push well over 1000hp and still be totally streetable.

I am pretty new to the idea of turbos, but what power can be expected from the s80 at 7-10#'s? on a 347 that is.

How can you stand by that statement? They made a turbo kit in 98, when our cars came out. Thats almost 10 years ago. Im sure they started before that also. Ati only has, what, 3 years on them?
