For those worried about a crash and not having a bumper support, think of the BIG picture. The bumper support is shaped like a U. It's NOT solid. It is fairly thick metal, but thin enough to cut using a sawzall without hassles. Then, you're putting a big ol FMIC, also made out of metal in it's place. It's not an "open hole", the FMIC is now residing there. In an accident, your FMIC is taking the hit, vs the U-shaped bumper support. The rigitiy isn't screwed either. In order to mount the FMIC, a metal bar has to be run along the front of the car, which is now tying the two front clip framerails together the same as the bumper support did. (Even without, there's the K-member, radiator supports, etc holding things in line. The car isn't going to fold in half! )

And finally, the freakin foam in the bumper is what's really attenuating crash force. I've yet to see a FMIC that retains the bumper foam, unless it's drawing from under the car.

Just my $0.02.

The metal is so thin on that support that I don't see removing it as a being a major structural problem. JMHO

Don't know if I still have any but I'll take a look when I get home. The IC is an OBX ebay unit 3" core. It's only held on by two 1/4" steel plates screwed to the bumper support and then into the threaded holes of the IC. When we installed it I was able to stand on the top intercooler and it barely flexed, now I have 2 bumper supports

Did you have to modify the bumper cover to fit or will it fit no problem?

I have a 99 Vette with A&A Vortech kit and a "TigerShark" front clip with the open front. This setup looks to be better for lowering IAT's even with the FMIC mounted in front of the bumper support. Like someone stated above holes could be drilled in the bumper support to let some air pass through with the bottom of the FMIC getting Maximum exposure to cool unobstructed air passing through
