Default Anyone seen this happen before?...

This happen on my second pass at the track Saturday night. The upper radiator hose steel coupling came out of the water pump at the top end of the track. I have seen alot of problems over the years, but have never seen this before. I was on a 7lb spring in the waste gate. I am not real sure what to make of it.

Any suggestions on how to fix it with out the chances of it happening again? The pump has been working great. I really dont want to pull it off to have to go buy another one.

I know a lot of turbo cars around here have that tapped and a huge AN fitting there to prevent exactly that (I guess). You got pretty lucky to not wreck or hurt yourself.

No doubt about it I was lucky. I am guessing I will have to pull the pump off and put an AN fitting in there to be on the safe side.

Most turbo cars put AN fitting on because they have to snake the hose through some pretty hot and tight spots I never seen that before, it must have been pried on or dropped or something at one time - it took me a while to yank one out when I wanted to weld a fiting to one - they are in there pretty tight..

Thats what I thought. The water pump hasnt been dropped or pried on since I have owned the car. Hmmmm. Now the debate. Add a AN style fitting or weld a aluminum sleeve on the water pump. Eighter way the water pump has to come off.

I had a steel pressed in elbow fall out of mine. But mines an LT1 and the one that fell out had been smacked around by a shredded blower belt.

Those fittings are usually in there really really tight. Any chance that you pressurized the coolant system? I wouldnt think so since you just got the car up.

That was the first thing I thought of. My coolant sytem is vented at the radiator. I am not pushing any water at all. I would hate to think 7lbs of boost is a problem. The engine was built to hold upwards of 20lbs. It is all studded. I can take that sleeve and push it fully seated into the hole in the water pump and pull it back out with little effort. I am thniking it was pried aginst or something at some point. I dont know. Gonna pull everything off and clean it up and put a diffrent water pump on it. See what happens..

daniel- the pumps aluminum, that hose fitting is steel. No tacky there! lol

Try JB weld, I had to rotate a 90* pressed in fitting on my LT1 to clear the blower stuff, it leaked afterwards so I JBwelded it back in there and havent had a problem yet. That fittings been in there for years and even got smacked by a shredded blower belt, not leaking yet.

I am not sure it iis a reman pump or not. I belive it is the stock 44k mile pump that originally came on the car. I called and priced a new pump yesterday. $189 dollars. I may just weld and aluminum sleeve on the pump I have or thread it and use an AN fitting. Eigther way is cheaper than a new pump.

the blowout was not boost related, it would burst the rad. hose or the plastic radiator first

I know remans use some kinda of glue in there. Look at an autozone rebuild they have green glue **** leaked all over the pump half the time. Id stay factory pump, no one tests anything more then the original manufacturers.
