Default Low compression, Incon kit & rear gearing.

Hay guys I was wondering if some of you could share what you would do if you had an incon kit with a 9 or 8.8 to 1 compression ratio motor. Would you run 3.73 gears or 3.42 gears. I am having Scott at DLS fix my rear after some baring problems and Don't know what to do. The rear already has 3.73's in it but would I do better with 3.42's. Thanks for any help in advance.

the lower the gear(numerically) the better you will spool the turbos and the more power you will be able to put down THUS giving you more MPH which is what you want.... I have 3.23's now and it feels alot better and im 100% positive that its alot faster than the 3.73's i had it in at first

Ya that is what I was thinking but I didn't know if my larger 18 in wheels in the rear would help to cancel out some of the effect of 3.73's but I believe the 3.42's are going in just to gain all I can from my turbos. Thanks bud for the info and help.

You know my setup. I'm running a 12 bolt with 3:73's in the rear. I don't think it will be to low, but alot of people run 3:55's back there with the M6 cars to avoid making the extra shift. I haven't made a pass with my 3:73's yet though to tell you what rpm I go through the lights at.

Thanks anarchy99 I appreciate the input. But I think I will go ahead and put the 3.42's back in as this is mostly a street machine and I like that gearing as you don't have to shift every second. Plus if it will load up the turbos to help them spool faster on the street then that is what I want as I to will have the larger turbos so I don't want to have much lag.

I had some 3.70's in my 9" and once I got to the point where I was hooking up at the track I would hit the rev limiter through the traps in third gear while running the 1/8th mile. Now I have 3.50's and I really can't tell much difference in spool up but I don't hit the rev limiter anymore at the track.

While I am leaning to 3.54 as being the best I can get in planned dana 60 I still think 3.73 might make for a bitter all around off boost street car. I wish could see some actual track results for same car with say 3.42 and 3.73. My goals are to have a car that can hit 10s not worried about every last mph or lower and lower ets. I would think even a 500 rwhp car can hit 10s even with 3.73s. My clutch don't seem to appreciate the wimpy 3.42s much either.
So is it really the end of the world for an m6 car to have 3.73s and be turboed?

Thanks a ton guys for all the input and help. What I guess I am hunting for is a car with great street manners but will be able to go to the strip and give me low 11's and maybe some high 10's while driving it off the line so I don't tear up allot of stuff.

If all you want is low 11's, sell the incon kit. I have seen cablebandit run 10's on his old setup while stomping the brakes at the 1/8th. It was both funny and depressing at the same time. Seriously, though, keep the 3.42 gears. You will have enough power to outrun your gears with 3.73's unless you rev the crap out of the motor.
edit-- Also, your 18" rims probably have a smaller diameter tire than a lot of 15" drag tires.

Thanks guys I have decided to go with the 3.42's so I can get the most out of it and yet still have good street manners, I hope. I do want some good 10 second passes out of it but I want to work into it slowly as I have never had or driven a 10 second car but I have driven 12 second cars and some mid 11 second cars. I understand how much 500 or 600 rwhp is and I want to have some seat time in it before I try turning it up any, because I have watched Cablebandit, Harlan, and Onfire, and after seeing how fast they were with their Incon kit's I want to get plenty of seat time.

I really like the Incon kit. 9.9 at 141mph at 3800lbs...baby Gt2871r turbos...it's a good kit.

i have an auto....mph was about the same. 3.73 was more fun to drive around town...3.23 on the highway was more fun. I am about to pull my current 3.55 gears and go to a 3.08...quicker spool in 1st because of the load and better mileage on the highway.
