Default Will this affect my Tune?? STS

Not sure if I'm in the right section for this but anyways heres the deal. I have a 94 camaro z28. About two years ago I had a STS turbocharger put on my car. I had the car dyno-tuned for my stock engine. Recently my stock opti-spark (lt1 distributor) went out on me. I replaced it with a new MSD opti-spark. But the new MSD opti-spark features a built in timing **** to adjust the timing. It's supposed to already be set for factory specs. My question is will this throw my tune off?? Many told me it could and others told me it will not. I really dont see it affecting the tune myself because it's all stored in the computer already. I was told as long as I dont mess with that timing screw I would be okay. Basically it would kinda be like a stock opti-spark from the factory since it's set for factory specs right??? That should not affect my tune at all then if thats the case. That timing **** is Basically like a option feature from msd. Any information will help.

im not sure if it would. anything adjusting the timing on my LS1 would mess up my tune...... but not sure about an LT1, i think its the fact that you are changing the timing...... i wouldnt just change it without the computer knowing what to do with more/less timing

If the timing **** is set to OE configurations it won't affect the tune because theoretically your telling the PCM that it's has an OE dist. .

With the **** set to OE the PCM will still recieve the same hi and lo resolution signal as it would from a GM dist.

Can you do any datalogging to make sure? Is there an indicator on the new opti that tells you it is set to the OE setting? I would just be worried that it was off by a little, and adding timing. That could be a mess.

Not really. Theres just a black screw that you can only turn in or out for the timing. No indicator to tell you what the setting is on. Only thing I really can do is take the car for a test drive and hope the setting is on factory specs. It should be but I remember reading a thread on this site where someone had to adjust there msd unit because it was way off. I will let you guys know what happens.

That would defently give me a good reason to upgrade to a 396 stroker. I should be okay. I'm going to take her for a spin tomorrow. MSD swears up and down that it will not affect my tune. We will see - Mike
