Over 360cid you need to add 10lbs per cubic inch to the 3400lb base weight. So your 408 would have to weigh 3880lbs without an intercooler. Add another 100lbs for an intercooler.

How light your car is now doesnt matter one one bit, 360 or less cubic inches, .550 lift max cam and a D1SC with an intercooler @ 3500lbs needs to get you 9.10 or better to be competitive on 11.5x28 ET STREETS.

Its doable yes, easy no.

I understand that the weight of the car doesn't matter now in the class. That's what I meant about the class will dictate my goals. What does your car weigh KP? So what would you guys suggest for a competitive setup in that class then?

Mine is ight about 3400 lbs but my cam, heads, tires and exhaust arent legal for that class. With the BS3 and intercooler I would have to weigh 3550 in street race.

IMO if you wanted to run that class I would do a slightly destroked LS2, set of reworked AFR 205s to max allowed runner size, blow through carb on C16 so you can save the intercooler 100lbs. Put a light 210 1st gear TH400/carbon fiber driveshaft, light 12 bolt etc. Take every ounce of weight you can off the front and put it in the rear and hope it hooks.

Hardest thing to do is get it all to 60 foot on those tires without putting it on the bumper.

So you think carb then? Hmmm...I was really wanting to stay EFI, but on the other hand if i spend the money to race the class, I want to be competitive as I can be. As far as the weight on the front, I have removed most of it with the exception of a race brake setup and fiberglass hood. Keep the opinions coming.

KP>>>Thanks for that suggestion. Keep them coming. I always have a hard time with stuff like this. I usually talk with an engine builder....which is what I will do this time but I would like to have some idea of what I want. I am doing alot of sesarching as well.

I'm sure you could be competitive with EFI, but if I built a car to run that class I would want to win it.

I was thinking of running it, figured I could run 9.30-9.40s with nothing exotic and that really isnt bad. If you could run 9.30s solid you could go rounds here and there. Its a good class but its still pretty expensive for an 'entry level' class but heads up racing is seldom cheap. With kids in school I cant make a full schedule though, 3 day weekends are tough and Mondays off are impossible for me so anything over 250 miles I cant really do, otherwise I would be all over that class.

I know the ol real street and enegade cars would up the compression back in the day of the NMRA and such... is that an option that may help or hurt the cause?

When you are on a limited amount of airflow upping the compression is one way to make more power, but some experimenting would be in order. Best to start low and work your way up while you are racing and figuring out the rest of the car instead of blowing it up on the first pass

Oh, don't get me wrong...I would want to win it!!! Well, if I have a schedule then I can get off every Monday. And I about to sell my house which is going to net me a good profit and I am going to use some of that to build my car right. As far as entry level, I don't of any other heads up classes to start in. Can't get by the rules in Mean Street. I guess I could do the EFI class but there aren't that many cars in that are there? There is really nothing local to me that I would like to do....

EFI class you can run anything you want, its just an index race. Honestly the payouts arent that much different then street race. Perfect car for that would be a 11.50 auto car with a solid drivetrain that ran dead nuts on. No roll bar, no license or other NHRA BS and you could race in a t-shirt on those hot summer days.

Less cars the better, better chance of winning. I may run the NMCA race in Commerce in a couple weeks, come on down and run the EFI class and get an idea what you are looking at.

I would love to do that but my motor is going to be sold after this weekend. I def want to run faster than 11.50 though. I know that I would have a better chance of winning something like that, but I just want to go faster and race at the same time.

you can go to 9.50 in the index class if you want. 11.50 is just a nice number for not having to worry about the safety stuff plus it all pays the same.

But the heads up stuff is cooler thats for sure, just have a big checking account or a high credit limit on your cards

I hear you..More than likely I was going to have to build the car to make the rules now and then it would take a little while to get the combo together anyway because of the expense. But that is the class that the car is going to be built for. I just may not be racing it in 08.

Sorry I didnt know about the weight penalties for added cubes...That changes things...

360ci Ls2, little higher comp, tons of overlap on the cam, good gas and as light as you can get it.

Good luck with it, make sure and keep an eye on what everyone is doing, classes come and go and rules get changed so if you are going to invest the money know as much about it as you can.

Looking over the rules, it looks like you could run at 3175, if you run no intercooler, and their spec drag radials, which would be a 275-60-15 BFG Drag Radial. You could add the intercooler back in with a +100 weight penalty.

This class is like that PSCA class that mandates 28x11.5 ET Streets, which I recall is a 8.9 - 9.10 class.

I think the Renegade guys tend to run 10:1 compression though all those NMRA guys have experimented with running more comprsession, I think a guy I know runs 11:1 in SSO 10.5.

Kevin, why are you advocating a blow-through carb setup, is there a weight savings or you are just thinking that it would be more suited to the class?

the fuel vaporization of a carb has a intercooling effect.... hes saying that by doing a carb setup, he can ditch the intercooler.. or more accurately ditch the 100lb penalty that comes with it.

Dont see where you figure 3175 with a 360 unless you run a P1SC, BFGs and no intercooler. Good luck running 9.0 with that Or a 310 CID with BFGs and no IC.

Blow through could eliminate the IC, the air/fuel mixing in a carb venturi has an intercooleing effect. On a drag only car its not hard to tune and is pretty basic, not to mention a simpler low pressure fuel system. I think the fastest guy now has a blow through turbo setup, if he keeps getting faster then I see the turbo cars taking a weight hit next year..

So 3275 on BFGs is doable with a 360 (have to slightly destroke a 4" bore to get there or take a 40lb hit for the 4cid which may not be a bad thing if you put it in the back).

I just put down 752rwhp with a 402 and a D1 and it is out of juice. The only reason I have it is I originally had the LS1 in there but blew it up. If I was doing it all at once I would get an F1 for anything 400ci and larger...

.

The problem with that is that the class mandates nothing larger than a D1.
