piecing together a supercharger kit...is that possible?
$150 for the J bracket
$100 for a mondo bypass
$150 for ebay IC
$60 for MMS oversized crank pulley
and approx $250 or so in ebay 3" pipe, couplers and clamps.
$50 Air filter
Let me know if I missed anything but I think thats all the pieces and it's approx $1500 if you add it all up.
Want even more BS
this $1500 home made kit is making 650rwhp/620rwtq on stock cubes / stock bottom end. It's a low budget home built heads/cam/midlength headers setup all on the 6rib
The oversized MMS crank pulley actually works pretty good. Not nearly as well as the SDCE setup but it gets the job done. Just have to crank on the tensioner every so often.
Backed up with the proper fuel system and good tuning and she has been running strong this way for going on 3 or maybe it's 4 years now. 3 of the 4 years though at just 560rwhp. That was with the bigger pulley and dual ati intercoolers. When he went FMIC he pullied up.
After all my searching I got my kit complete for $2,300 which I felt was a good deal.
Bottom line, if you think you can piece it together cheap, then great, but it would suck to be waiting all summer for the right deals to come along while the rest of us are beating up on Cobras.

... to me it's still fresh in my mind.... So far you've got $1560 in parts. You still need:
Fuel injectors - $200 (used) to $400+ for nice ones new
Fuel Pump - $100 (minimum)
ATI fan & Shroud Assembly ~$300
ATI Radiator Support ~$50-75
Driven Pullies $50 used, ~$85 new
All loose Mounting Hardware ~$50
a GOOD tune - min $400 (professionally done) $200 ( handheld tuner)
Belts - won't count this but just a thought.
and lets not forget some oil for the blower. add all of this.. and the price is suddenly.
$2500 - $3000 which is exactly what I feel you'll end up spending to be driving in your car with a nicely put together used setup; more towards the $2500 if you happen to catch some killer deals, but again the "you get what you pay for" phrase comes to mind...
But I did miss the fans, radiator support, and the belt. good catch.
So crank up the $1560 to $1900
Overall yes I agree with you, if you factor in everything, blower, tune, fuel, guages, etc... then if you score some killer deals $2500 is the cheapest your gonna get away with unless you steal the stuff
If I was going to piece together a setup, it woudl be procharger, the vortech has VERY expensive parts, ie 1100 balancer assembly.
