The electrical gauges need power for the circuit to work, then they need the signal from the sending unit to drive the needle, and one power wire for the lights, then the ground. Mechanical gauges dont need electric at all for the gauge to work, they only have wires for the light.

I believe most in most GM's to make your gauge light up with the parking lights you will run the positive wire of your gauge to a power source, then the negative wire will tap into one of your interior lights that come on with your parking lights. That way when you dim your dash lights the gauge will dim too.

stay away from cyberdyn gauges i had two brand new gauges and they both went bad in under two weeks getting autometers mechs. all the way
