I'm not trying to turn this into a pissing contest, your friend has been lucky prob. mostly because of his turning. I have read many posts in here where someone is getting valve float above 5K because of the stock springs. Most of us highly value our cars in this hobby and I don't understand why take a change on doing needless damage over a set of $200-300 springs and $120 fuel pump. Especially with the money we tie up in these cars.

Guess that was a bit contradictory. I mean he doesn't abuse his car like some people racing everyone in sight and tracking it every weekend and taking it to redline every light with full on powershifting.
He does take it to redline once in awhile and does put it in to boost freqently and enjoy the turbo. He is also conservative guy and leaves the boost at 5psi and stock rev limiter which is probably why he don't seem to have any problems with valve float . His engine is nearly brand new as it was slapping so gm replaced it. So his valve springs are super low mileage. I sold him my racetronix pump but as of last summer he did not install it. Sure he has over winter or will this season. He plans on alc/meth and intercooler and sure will upgrade the valve springs or swap out cams. And he tuned it from day one, think the sts comes with predator tuner and he put in the 42s right away.

So is he lucky? .maybe but from what I have seen its fairly hard to blow up the stock motors at 5psi if you run premium fuel and keep the rev limit at stock. That said I decided due to getting my turbo kit at end of season last year to do up a fully forged 408 with of course all support mods in my 99 and do it all in one big modfest.

Nothing better than a modfest!

Well mainly I asked this not because I'm not going to get the support for the reliability issue, but because I wanted to know if I could just put it on so its on for the time being and then put the supporting stuff in there like couple weeks down the road. But I did I'm just gonna wait the extra 2 weeks to buy the supporting stuff that way I dont gotta risk buyin a new motor or nething.

I rarely got on my car 90K miles full bolt-on and stalled, kept the oil changed religiously and when I went to do my cam install I found metal shavings and grit(cam bearings) covering the stock cam. I found a killer deal on an ls6 and had to get it. I had been researching turbos on here at the time also and then every thing just snowballed from there. I lucked into great deals on most of the major supporting mods, down to the injectors(new $320) and 317 heads(new $350). Stuff happens. My car wouldn't be where it's at today if it didn't. I'm glad I went ahead and got all the supporting stuff because I had 2 more kids in december and now I can't afford to buy another motor. So it gives me alittle peace of mind.

One more thing about turbo cars.To make boost you need to give it a fair bit of gas. You can pretty easily control boost with your right foot. Example .When breaking in my new talon the wastegaste springs were set for 15psi minimum. I didn't want to break in the engine at 15psi so simply would limit my rpm and how much gas I fed it. I had no trouble keeping the boost to 5psi or so. I had proper support mods on the car too.
So you can simply install the kit and stay out of it to keep it out of boost. Agree this would take a bit of willpower.

i have switched from Diablo to HP Tuners pro with a wideband installed now.

i have tweaked the tune but the car runs solid, runs hard and does not have any fuel delievery issues with the stock pump and the 42Lb injectors.

the only problem i found is that 42Lb injectors (SVO ford Green Tops) do not allow a good idle quality due to the injectors pulse width being to large if i make the pulse width less than 1.8-1.9 the car wants to go lean on idle.

I have kept a close eye on the AFR and Injector Duty and the most i have hit is 74%

if i did it again i would probably spend the few bucks and atleast get the boost a pump kit and get a Fuel presure regulator.

good luck with the kit. i like mine and i still happy with 5psi. Most the time

I think that 60's will run fat at idle. Even with the right tune, with his setup, he will run fat. I would go with 48# IMO.

It's not that it won't run, or won't run for a while into the future...

It's that there is NO ROOM FOR ERROR.

One leaky vacuum line, one over-rev, one hiccup in the fuel line, and your pretty LS is tin cans. Ask me how I and several other victims of the notorious #7 ringland know.

Do it right and save thousands, as well as weeks to months of downtime.

Why dont you talk to some one that has this kit or call STS and find out what they recommend. All the rest is just "bench racing" IMO. My setup w over 550 rwhp on a HC and spray setup I have stock fuel pump and 24 lb injectors and have had this set up for 2 years wo any problems and yes I have a wideband and monitor it every time I drive it.
