Hey MM, so you've had great results running the non synthetic rotella? What weight are you using? I thought atleast the FI guys would be using synthetic no matter what brand. On the other hand, we should change the oil very frequently so I guess that explains non synthetic sufficient enough

Why switch to non synthetic in the summer though?
its just a thicker oil and it gets HOT down in FL so figure it would help

yea i feel like clean oil in general is better than fancy dirty oil, so i just keep it changed and use regular 10-40

Makes sense to me too, will have to take your word on it. Seems to be working for you so it will be more than good enough for me than Off topic but what filters do you guys use than since you change it more frequently? I've heard about the a/c delco and fram are crap after some decent miles but wouldn't it do the job if you changed it 2500k and less? I can't see myself going much over 2k on an oil change, especially for the minimal miles I put on in a year!

i happen to use the pure one filters or napa gold, no particular logic behind those... some sort of premium filter but i do not generally look at fram or stp or k&n at all for some reason

One thing about the "New" Rotella and other diesel motor oils, is they took out alot of the zinc since the "low emmissions" diesels came out. If you look at the bottles of the new stuff that is labled approved for 2007 Ultra Low Sulphur vehicles, it is not the same as the old Rotella.

Same goes for the Kendall oils. I use to run alot of the old GT1 Kendall back in the day (the green stuff), and it had alot of Zinc in it (for high shock loads).

The old school racers still recommend Brad Penn oil, as it is suppose to be the same formula as the old Kendall GT1.
http://www.bradpennracing.com/

What I still use is what someone else recommended...Castrol Syntec 5w50.

I noticed with the Syntec 5w50 that I do not get as much blowby and my actual oil consumption is less. I've been using the 5w50 for over 15 years and have never had a bearing failure...knock on wood.

I use it in all my performance stuff as well as my 220,000 mi beater snow plow truck, without any issues.

Hmmm, the good info keeps coming........... I love it and more facts to prove the Castrol once again! Might have to test both out and see the difference!

Went to Napa today, I had to ordre in the Gold filters but they had the pro select in stock. Didn't seem as good and they'll be in tomar.

However, I can only find 15w40 and not the 5w40 or 10w40 rotella T non synthetic. It only gets really hot for about 2 months where I live and more or less warm for the other 3-4 months that I drive. Will I be ok running the 15w40? Won't it be a bit thicker/harder on the engine, I thought that either the 5w or 10w would be better. If so I might have to get them to order that in as well.

Just curious, do you guys run the same stuff in your DD's or do you run something else. I know I like to put synthetic in my truck and will usually get away with changing it twice a year. Spring and Fall. Especially sythetic in the girlfriends truck since she usually forgets about it

I've been meaning to ask this very same question. So I guess the over opinion is to use a heavier weight oil in a turbo'd car?

15w40 non-synthetic?

Yup, unless someone tells me to run different, LOL

I'd like to find some 10w40 but I guess the 15w40 shouldn't make much difference. If I drive the car at this time of year it can be fairly cold out yet here in Canada is why I am wondering.

I just switched from castrol syntec 5w-30 to Rotella T synthetic 5w-40. So far so good but its only been about 2 weeks I personally wouldnt run anything but synthetic with my turbo, the heat and abuse the oil takes i just dont trust conventional oil.

Hmmm, I'll have to check and see tomar if they can order me some rotella 5 or 10w40....... they said they only stock the 15w40. Seems like its a bit tougher to get some things in our stores in Canada compared to the US
