Default possible valve float?

i havent had the chance or money to get some springs to replace the 85,000+ mile stockers . my motor dont seem to do much on the top end. but down low seems to pull pretty good.over 4500 seems like its just sitting there.can i just lower the shift points to band aid this problem? any non sarcastic suggestions?
