Fuel pump gone, I think..

Fuel pump gone, I think.. I was driving down the street a few days ago, and I was low on gas. I guess I started running out (even though the guage was still a tiny bit above 'E') and the car started sputtering, so I pulled into a parking lot, got a gas can, put a gallon in and tried to fire it up. Wasnt working. So I went and got another gallon, put it in, and it started up. I got a little ways down the street and it started sputtering again, so I pulled over. I put even MORE gas in, just to make sure, and it still wouldnt go. I kept trying to start it, and I heard the whining of the fuel pump (that is the fuel pump right?), then it stopped. The fuse popped, so I put a new one in, and this time I didnt hear the whining and the car wouldnt start.
This does sound like the fuel pump right? Is there any way I can decide for SURE that its the pump? Cuz im broke right now, and spending 200 bucks on a pump and that not being the problem would really really suck, lol. Thanx.

Oh, and I also tried to purge the line and get the air out, but nothing was coming out at all.

Re: Fuel pump gone, I think.. Probably sounds like the fuel pump or the fuel filter is clogged up. I had that happen to me as I was goin down the road the car just died and I had half a tank of gas and The car wouldnt start so I figured it was the fuel pump but im glad it wasnt it was just the relay to the fuel pump and only cost me 14 bucks 
Re: Fuel pump gone, I think.. That's a fairly new fuel pump in the car. I think it has a year warranty parts and labor. I will look for the paper work and let you know. I had the work done at Shellworth in Vacaville.

Re: Fuel pump gone, I think.. if you let your fuel get really low, particularly if it doesn't happen every often, then you can get dirt and debris that usually float at the top of the fuel to clog up the pump sock and fuel filter. Check those and perhaps you will notice something out of whack. If not I agree it sounds like an issue with your pump.

Man, my fuel pump just died on me over this weekend. It's at the GM dealership for repair. Good thing it happened while I was warming the car up at my garage instead of out in the road. All of a sudden the car just turned off and wouldn't re-start. The fuel pump may be clogged or weakened - I don't know how to describe it but there's a little dot you press that squirts the fuel - it should squirt out with force, but mine barely shoots out when you hold that little button. Does anyone know if the fuel pump for this vehicle weakens easily? How do you clean the fuel pumps from debris in case it's being clogged?
