problem with idle

Hi I live in chicago and i store my car over winter, i start it about once a week but when i started it today it started really high up, and then went down, after i let it get warm and it was running for about 15 minutes i tapped the gas and it went and reved high and stayed there and then slowly went down if you guys could help me that would be great it is a 99 trans am with long tubes ls6 intake and other bolt-ons with a computer tune. thanks

thats what i was told but i was told that if i drive it it should reset itself and if it doesnt i need to replace it is that true, or should i just replace it?
