Question Removing Fuel Injectors... Write Up????

Can anyone tell me how to remove the fuel injectors? I will be taking my stock 28# injectors off and be swapping them out with 42# injectors. But i have no idea on how to remove my stock ones first. Do i need to remove my FRs?

Thanks

The fuel rails hold them in place - the fuel rails are held in place with small bolts (4 if I remember right). Loosen those bolts, and you'll be able to pop the fuel rail off. The injectors will stay in the rails as they are held in with small clips (from the factory). Pop those clips off, and at that point they are only being held in place by o-rings. Just give them a gentle but firm tug and they'll come right out.

Very simple, but usually messy and smelly.

I also usually put Vaseline or something on the o-rings before putting them back in as well...just thought I'd mention that as well.

"What is the vasoline used for anyways?"

To make sure the o-rings seat properly without tearing.

Also on some cars, the last bolt on the drivers side fuel rail (towards the firewall) has a cable stop mechanism (in case of an accident) attached to the fuel rail as well. The throttle cable should go through it. So there's a nut that goes on top of the cable stop mechanism, lift both off then you have to undo the bolt itself (like the other 3). Reading that it sounds more difficult than it is but I wanted to explain it as taking it off is easy, back on can be tough because you can't see all that well.

you'll need tuning immediately if you swap your 28s for 42s. Your car will run like crap due to all of the extra fuel

It will also be easier if you use a fuel disconnect and take the feed line off. They usually all stay on the rails when you pull it up. I think its a 3/8" disconnect.

I have a cheap plastic 3/8" fuel line removal tool. I have not used it. Hopefully it will work

It will - just slip it over the hard line, and seat it as far as you can into the fuel line connection point. Push forward on the fuel line (towards the passenger side), and then pull back. Fuel will come out. Your hands will smell like *** for the rest of the day. The end.

Sometimes you have to play with the feed line to get it to come off. Just have the rags ready to catch all the fuel. Some latex gloves take care of the fuel smell on the hands if you worried about it.

You will want to relieve the pressure also. Remove the gas cap to help.
