Default Throttle Body

THROTTLE BODY: Can someone please inform me if the throttle body of Chevy truck 5.3L engine will fit and function properly on a LS1 5.7L motor fitted into the '99-'03 Camaros and Firebirds. Please give some details.

Cheers,

Mark

Truck throttle bodies are drive by wire like the vettes, where F-body's use a throttle cable. It would fit, but it wouldnt work.

Thank you, but are all truck TB driven by wire? Because looking at the image it looks as though it has the connection to fit the normal manual cable.

Thanks,

Mark

I don't know.... I was just looking at the 2003 5.3L and the 4.8L. Maybe 2002 and earlier are different.

Here is the deal.

The earlier model trucks used throttle by cable and some of the newer ones now use throttle by wire similar to the vette's. If the truck TB is throttle by cable it WILL work on 98/99 LS1 cars. The throttle shaft basically is the same, with the exception being the cruise control hookup, although it will work also.

The 98/99 car has a round throttle shaft (camber) while the 00+ has an eccentric or oval basically camber. This is the green piece on the side where the throttle cable hooks up that we are talking about.

The throttle by cable truck, 98/99, and 00+ F-body throttle body housings themselves are all interchangeable. The trucks have a slightly different pcv tube and coolant tubes on the bottom, but can be modified easily to clear the manifold and waterpump.

And I CAN bring a smile to your face by porting/powdercoating one for you.

Hi,

Thank you for shedding a lot of light on this subject.

I am actually in Australia and as a 'sideline' am bringing in throttle bodies from the States now and then and selling it here to the guys with the LS1's. So, a ported and powder coated at that maybe a viable proposition.

My email address is: kleiner5@optushome.com.au, let me know.

Cheers,

Mark
