Default Diaphram on fuel rail?

What is the diaphram looking thing on the fuel rail at the supply line? This is for a 99 vette so I assume the regulator is in the back as part of the filter so is that diaphram looking thing needed?

I ask because I was going to install a set of aftermarket rails.

It's a fuel pressure damper. It keeps the pressure steady at the set pressure instead of having pressure spikes and low points as the pump turns.

I have also just bought some aftermarket fuel rails. A complete kit, like yours jkkaz. So it is the fuel pressure damper. I assume that you don't need this??? Also, when installing aftermarket fuel rails, do you need to install an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator?

Thanks

I don't know how critical it is to have that damper. I've never run a car with the return line so far away from the fuel rail. My plans for installing the aftermarket fuel rail are going to wait until I get a regulator and install a return line at the fuel rail. My head cam swap is still being finished up so the fuel rail part is one of those things on my "to do" list.
