Best method for FI fueling.
1) Use the stock bucket with a Bosch 044 modified with a sock and a full return.
2) Use current bucket with Walbro 255 (bypassing the stock restrictive filter) with a direct line to feed an inline Bosch 044 to a full return.
3) Surge tank being fed by stock tank. Two external Walbro 255s with a boost referenced hobs switch.
4) Two internal Walbro 255 in stock bucket. Boost referenced hobs switch.
I listed them in the order of preference. There was a guy that did the first setup in a GTO and he was at the limit with 650 RWHP. However this was not with a return style system so Im guessing the was more room for the pump to grow.
A single pump isn't likely to meet your goals.
Personally, I dislike external pumps for two reasons: First, they are noisy as heck, and not a fun kind of noise like an exhaust. Second, since they aren't swimming in fuel like the in tank pumps they will get hot and consequently heat up the fuel.
I'd give Lonnie @ Lonnie's Performance a call. He knows this stuff too well!
#2 Running pumps in series is not a good combination & is still limited by the smallest pump. A second series pump is usually a cheap band-aid fix to a marginal fuel system. You should never design a system this way.
#3 is very complicated & the most expensive of all 4 ideas, plus it will not work any better than your last choice.
#4 is the way I do them, with many years of proven reliability & they work very well.
I'll be glad to help you out.
Feel free to give me a call if you want to discuss in more detail.
