Default need help with a conversion fuel system

i know this is more of a conversion question, but nobody over there would answer my question directly. So I am putting a 6.0 LY6 truck motor into a 79 C10. it is just going to be a street rod that i might take to the strip a couple of times. I put a cam in it and springs in the heads but thats it. My plan for the fuel system was to use the stock gas tank and sending unit with a walbro 255 inline pump and a corvette reg/filter. i thought this would work fine, but there were a bunch of people on here that said that that setup would not work, and i really dont know why not. So i need to know for sure if this is an ok system for my application and if not, why not? and what will work? I want to keep the stock tank so i just need to know what else will work with it. Your help is appreciated.
