Exclamation FUEL PUMP issues... (RS 2001)

Hey there. Went 1 year without major mecanical problem!! Things unfortunately changed 2 days ago. My 2001 RS (V6, 74K) starts, but then the engine doesnt catch. For having had a Ford a couple years ago and a similar situation, I believe the fuel pump is dead. I had it towed to the shop and waiting on diagnosis and estimation.

2 questions:

- How much does it cost to install a new fuel pump on V6 Camaros ($500+)?
- Should I consider using a "generic" part (pump) if it cut the costs significantly or is that really strongly not recommended?

Im starting to wonder if I really want to keep the car if every year Im gonna have to cover $500+ in extra repairs (plus reg. oil changes, etc.). So if the non-OEM pump could last 20K miles, that would work for me...

Thanks for your help, advice, input. Happy Mother's Day.
