Default Help with fuel system schematics

I have a 71 Chevy truck in the initial stages of build and I just bought a 5.3 chevy. I'm building my own tank. No worries, I am a welder. I dont know what I need to do this correct. Some say I need a sump. Some say go in tank with the pump. Some say go outside the tank. I would rather go inside the tank b/c the frame is powder coated and im running everthing stainless under the chassis so i dont want a pump hanging there. i can build the tank any way that I want but I dont know what I need. Any advice would be great.

Regardless of what way you go. An efi must always have an uninterupted supply of fuel available. Whether sitting still, going round corners, or accelerating or decellerating.

So some form of sump, or internal collector is absolutely essential. Even more so if the tank is quite big in terms of length/width.

Easiest option is some form of sump. Say even a round 4-5" diameter protruding below the tank whcn can supply external pumps, or be the actual reservoir for an internal pump. Baffling is also good, as is foam filled.

Im in the same boat. Im building a 59 stepside with a 2001 5.3. I built my tank out of aluminum and am putting it under the bed. Very similar to the tanks inc pump, Im making a fuel pump housing the bolts in from the top of the tank and mounts the pump inside with a tray around pump ( tank is also baffled)
Im using a fuel pump from a 98 ls1 camaro. It was the stock pump and housing, and I tore it apart for parts, (pump and sender) I wanted to mount it as it was but my tank was too short. Mine is 8" tall, I think 10" would have allowed me to use the original ls1 unit in my tank.
Im not done with mine, but I hope that helped.
Im still not sure about the rest of the system though.

i like the way aeromotive has the alum cells with the a1000 pump already in them....but i dont want to pay 700 bucks for one. im planning on useing an a1000 pump, and since they are submersable i think im going to use a plastic cell and put the pump in the cell (not sure how im going to do the wiring yet) and make a pickup that will be baffled somehow and use foam. i imagine you could use the same idea for a steel tank too.
