replaced my fuel pump

Default replaced my fuel pump

ok guys need your chim inn!

so i was deployed for over a year and my car hadnt been turned on for the longest time ever maybe 8months thanks to my dad and i got home checked the car changed the oil and all car seemed good to turn on and i try to crank her and nothing so i check battery dead so i go get it replaced warranty. then i try it again nothing and then i call my buddy fbody GOD and check it out and he says the fuel pump is dead no preasure or nothing.......

so we start to cut the oem exhaust and remove the fuel tank man that thing was dry and full of rust cleaned it out the best we could and started looking for a fuel pump man let me tell you this things are expensive had the cash but didnt want to spend it all on the fuelpump so went and bought one from ebay used and good with a 60 day warranty replaced it and put it back on and it worked only one bad thing now......

it doesnt read my gas level how can i fix this?

If you reconnected all of the wiring correctly, you may have gotten the float stuck in the tank so that it can't move, maybe caught on the pump assembly.

Not sure what the setup looks like on a 98, but on my 99 the float was on a long bar and mine was hanging up also. I dropped the tank replace the pump and while I was doing that I removed the float to find a little bit of rust had accumulated on the bar. All I did was take some emery cloth to it and bam problem was solved. Gauge started registering the correct amount of fuel in the tank.

If the tank was totally dry, the sensor is likely corroded or at minumum covered with deposits, preventing it from working properly.
