Default Pressure Question

To run my car at 5000 rpm's what is the needed fuel pressure. My tuner says it's only 33 lbs and that won't maintain the motor. I am still driving it because it is my DD and will be replacing the pump during my Christmas vacation but am curious about the pressure.

Base pressure should be 58 psi, as long as I'm reading your signature correctly (which is pretty damn confusing, BTW).

Don't run your car that hard until you get the problem fixed.

It's a 98 Z28 or was what's confusing about that?

That's what I needed to know - the only thing I see there is something about a ZO6, granted that has the same base pressure (58psi).

WOT with only 33psi wouldn't be a good idea at all - the PCM can't tell what the fuel pressure is, so if it is dropping like that, it really doesn't know it needs to keep the injectors open longer to compensate.

So get it fixed.

OK i did not know the PCM did not register fuel pressure. So I must be losing a lot of power then.

I'd be more worried about it running too lean, but that also means less power.

Still the stock pump?

Yes and I have another complete stock assembly ready to go in. I was going to buy one of those aftermarket pumps but I read of tooooooooo many issues with them, i think they're called racetronix. I like GM parts.

OK well I did the Trap Door and all went well. Thanx to all again for another job well done. LS1Tech Rocks!!

So i called Autozone and the guy told me it would be $150 rental to check my fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I told him no thanx but that is not what I was thinking, if you know what I mean. So now to find a reasonable pressure gauge to make sure I have enough pressure so the Tuner can finish my Tune.

I've hardly ready about any problems with ractronix. And you'd be hard pressed to find a drop in GM pump that will supply what you need.
I have a Racetronix, the pump and wiring are fine, but my stock regulator can't handle it.

for your's I'd look into a 255 unit from Ractronix. Bolt it up and ready on the other basket you have laying around and just do an easy swap. And watch out when the hotwire fix is already in there. When/if you cut the trap door after it's been installed, the wiring is RELLLLLY close to where you are cutting. I didn't go in far but barely nicked the sheathing. Wires are find tho.

I could rebuild my old basket but I broke one of those little white clips that hold the metal fuel line into the plastic hose. Can those clips be bought?

Yes, any local Auto parts store should carry them, or try any local GM dealer.

The pump mounted pressure regulator (the gold thing that sits on top of the fuel pump mod) can also go bad.
Last I looked Racetronix was selling the complete Fbody fuel module new for less than $200.http://www.racetronix.biz/itemdesc.a...%2D001&eq=&Tp=
I am now on my 2nd Racetronix unit= 93k on factory, 79k on first Racetronix pump and harnass with no issues, replaced that one last year during the LS1 to LS6 swap with a new module and Ractronix/Walbro pump, once again no issues 13k and counting. Change the filter every 10k and NEVER let your car run below 1/4 tank, and the pump will last a loong time.
