Default Fuel System Help

After reading a bit I am pretty set on doing the walbro 340 single pump. I am going to do the access hatch to get to it to do the job.

I hear all about this 'hotwire' kit but who sells it??????
And will it work with a 2000???

What all will I need to do? What is involved in the pump swap? If I get the hotwire kit will it make install much easier? Do I have to fab any parts for the swap? Details would be appreciated.

Thanks

OK nevermind I found the hotwire kit, so with this kit what else is involved?

And also what all is included in this kit?

Wouldnt it be a lot cheaper to go out and buy the larger guage wire and relay and fuse??? Or is it not worth it?

I was wondering the same things. Also how hard is it to install, do you have to run the larger wire all the way to the alternator?

I suggest putting the car on a lift and doing it the right way. It's not that hard of a job. Cutting a whole in your trunk is not the right way to do things. The Walbro pump is a good bit thinner than the factory pump. You will need to stick something between the pump and the housing that holds the pump to make it a tight fit. I used an old radiator hose from a pickup truck and cut little section to fit tightly in there. Also on the bottom of the pump is the screen. youll need to modify the plastic housing so that the screen can fit through. I used a air grinder but i'm sure there a million other ways to do it. Youll see whan you get to it. Other than that it works well.

thanks for the tips, but i still need to know if it is really worth getting the hotwire kit. If i just need to go out and get some larger guage wire, a relay, and a fuse, then I will save a lot of $$

You can do that.... just make sure you get the right relay or ask someone who has done it before......

I differ that creating an access hatch is the "wrong" way.

If you anticipate going in there periodically, it is a perfectly logical thing to do. In the same post, Eastern Bowtie recommends doing some non-standar things HE thinks is necessary.

You will be SO glad you did this mod!

Based on what?

Might I suggest to you to find someone local to you that did the access mod (nice and planned out not hacked to bits) and take a look at their set up. When done properly this is a quick and efficient way to access our pump. GM should have put one of these in at the factory. The time savings is amazing.
