I regret not doing it earlier. Between today and yesterday I had my pump out 3 times trouble shooting a problem. If I had to drop the tank everytime I had to do this I would have shot the car lol. It made it real easy when I stepped up to doing the racetronix set up too. 1 vote for doing it here.
If you have a an issue with resale value latter on, don't tell them there is access panel back there, what they don't know won't hurt them....

Nice to see, after remembering how well the exhaust shop re-aligned and "super" secured my catback after I installed my headers--I dont even want to know how long it will take to remove the catback.
I have now decided I am going to cut for sure! Anyone have exact measurments on a '99, think its the same 99-02.

Its really not that bad, You can do the whole thing including fabbing the fuel bucket with a dremel. Plus chances are you will one day have to go back in to mess with the fuel pump/system again so you may as well cut the hole. Nobody will ever know

I'm SO glad I cut mine. The only people I've heard regret it are those who have not done it.

Basicly you need to cut an 8"x8" square starting at the radiused part of the trunk. That will give you plenty of room to get everything out. Just becareful cutting, the lines and wiring harness' aren't to far under the steel. Here's a pic of mine.

I have a the MOROSO Easy access door mounted in my car and I will reinstall the carpet under the door. So when you look you see the door, one quick dzus fastener and there is the pump hole. But no pump, I have external. Sorry no pics of it installed yet!

That is really cool! Where and how much?

EDIT: Found it at Jegs and Summit, but is the access door large enough to work with? The specs are 8-1/8'' square frame, 6'' square door.

How far is it between the steel and the nearest component that can be damaged (wires, lines, etc) when cutting? 1", 2"? What did you cut yours with, dremel or some kind of saw?

Thanks, Shawn

A dremel with a reenforced fiberglass cutting wheel works great. The wires are actually closer to the metal than the lines. I'm guessing at what it was but the wires were probrably 1/4" or so and the lines were atleast a half an inch.

Well if I had to I could just remove the dor to work there not a big deal. But as I said I don't even have a pump there now! Pump Is a weldon external. The door is for access to some wires, fuel lines, and sending unit.

The time the access door saves is well worth it. Who cares about the hole in the car its covered by the carpet anyway. Save yourself the time and effort of dropping the tank and cut away. You won't regret it!

Just did mine tonight -- no regrets at all cutting the hole... Instead of using a cutoff wheel and making a big mess, I spent six bucks at Harbor Freight and used this instead:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...itemnumber=539

Talk about making that little task EASY !!! Drilled two holes at the corners, and started cutting. I left the flap attached (cut only three sides), and just bent it forward to expose the pump, then folded it back down when I was done. I'm going to fab up a nice cover over the hole eventually, but this was quick and easy. The hole took literally 2 minutes TOPS to cut, and the edges are nice and straight.

Good find Brains!! That is the tool I have been using and talking about on here for the past year but I could never find a pic of it.

That link should make it much easier for folks to do this mod now and not mess anything up.

Kick ***!!
