Default fuel pump install problem...

ok, a couple of my buddys had access to a lift so i let them do my fuel pump install. its a walbro 255 ltr/hr. first off i got it and right before they started the install they noticed the box said mustang so i called thunder racing and they said the pump was universal. so they go with it and on the stock pump there is a golden nipple thing that the afteremarket pump didn't have. well they go to replace it and the nipple finally goes in but its really loose. does this mean they messed it up? do i have to buy a new pump all together? should i just return it and use the stock pump since i will only be putting out 450-500rwhp? i apreciate the help guys. thanks.

What year is your car? And were they trying to reuse all of the stock lines for the pump. There are pictures at the bottom that may help you out. You simply eliminate the secondary pickup, modify the bucket and mount, then run a 5/16" fuel line from the pump to the housing (98 cars have a slightly different set up I believe).

its a 2001 and it wasn't a line it was a gold nipple that sits next to place where the fuel gets pulled out from. i was wondering if you are suppoed to switch it over or leave it off.

I just looked at my stock pump and you are talking about the brass barbed fitting next the outlet, right? That is the secondary fuel pick up that feeds the pump just incase the canister goes dry. The Walbro is not set up to work with the secondary pickup, you need to eliminate it. In my pictures you can see how I had to cut the canister to work without it. It's hard to see in the pics but, I also cut a rectangle out of one side of the canster to let fuel slosh in. I've driven the car with an 1/8 of a tank of gas and I still get a steady 60 psi even around corners. Hope this helps.

Just take the secondary pick up and line out of the canister (I ripped mine out and opened up the hole alittle so fuel in the canister could flow down into the sock). You won't have to reuse any of those parts. From the pump to the housing I used a piece of high pressure 5/16" fuel line and some band clamps. I don't think you can reuse the stock feed line and I don't think that the bent line with the Thunder kit is long enough.
