Am I just stupid?
Or did anyone else have a LOT of trouble getting the tank back in after a pump install? It literally took 3 of us an hour to get it back in! We are all very experienced mechanics(BUT this is our first LS1 pump install) The hard part was getting the fuel filler tube back on until we figured out to remove the inner fender liner from the drivers side rear wheel well then it wasn't too bad. I didn't want to cut up a customers car but you can bet the next one will have an access door cut! We had some trouble fitting the mustang pump in the "basket" & had to figure out how to make the smaller Walbro GSS349 pump fit in the rubber sleeve but we used o rings as "spacers"to make it fit snug, what did you guys use? Any more ideas you guys used would be helpful as I'm new to working on LS1 cars mostly do M******gs.
Didn't actualy have to much trouble with mine. Had help gettin it out as it was 3/4 full. But empty I was able to do the reinstall in an hour. I had heard the filler neck bolt could be gotten to from the liner.
I used some rubber strip around the pump slipped it into the boot and put a hose clamp around the outside to hold it together. Seemed to be a firm mount, and it retains the rubber isolation to keep noise down.
